ADS L810 Goodwill score

I ran across a pair of ADS L810's yesterday at Goodwill. $10.14 for the pair! Cabinets have some scratches, but cleaned up nice. Perfect grills. Drivers weren't even dusty. I had no idea what a great sounding speaker they are. Hooked them up to a Marantz 2270 and love them. The downside is, I need a tweeter. OE replacements are rare. Does anyone know of a comparable replacement tweeter for this model? The original part number is ADS 206 0102. I believe these are older models. They have metal twist wire connectors on the back and no fuses.

That is not a score -- that is GW robbery -- congrats! The tweeters come up on the Auction Site With No Name regularly.

I've located a guy in AZ who can rebuild the tweeters and warrantee them. Shipping out to him monday.

Is that Richard So? I have dealt with him in eMails and can vouch he's an honest man- could have sold me un-needed stuff but did not. Highly recommended.

You lucky dog! GWs around here are never good for anything like that. Had a pair that I bought new in 1980 and like deli have 1230s now.

I love stories like this.

dheath, Richard So is the guy that rebuilds Braun/ADS

I sure hope the guy you met wasn't a fellow named Ed, or Eddie... last name similar to hamburger?

There's a set now of 206-0107's up on the auction site with no name, which were for the later series of L810's, beginning with SN# 13,918 and up.

6 hours left, starting bid 25 bucks. FYI.

AAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH!
:ntwrthy:

Hold out for the correct tweeter. Worth the trouble. Seriously. No kidding. Honest to Goodness. Please.

Richard So does GREAT work. He has rebuilt two ADS L910 tweeters for me--they come back looking like new and for a very reasonable price.

OK, you suck. I mean, you rock. Envy :pistols: and admiration :beerchug: battle it out....alright, admiration won. NICE SCORE!!!

Please correct me if I'm wrong. IIRC, the L-810 is a 4 ohm speaker. 2270 have a reputation for not liking 4 ohm speakers. Just a possible heads up!

Great score! I thought the pair of mint 520s I got last weekend on CL for $60.00 was good. I also have L-880's & L-990's. I like the sound of the old ADS stuff. I think the crossover just went on one of the L-990's though, so I will be watching the Bay as well. If I see one of the tweeters you're after I will let you know.

Does he only work on ADS/Braun drivers? Do you have contact info?

Tarior,

I'm sure he only works on aDs.

Other driver repair I'd consider GordonW and check in with JPDylon and FredLongworth for good measure.

I've dealt with Gordon and it was a pleasant dealing, and I believe Jp and I have dealt together too- he's a good fella.

And fred longworth is just a great, smart fella.

I recone/refoam woofers and mids on a daily basis (betcha didn't know that about me:D). I was hoping to find a new parts source or at least a repair source for difficult-to-replace tweeters. I never really have tried picking Gordons brain though.

Someone posted a new auction today on the Bay. He is parting out a pair of 810's. He only has the mids listed right now, but the auction number is 270348120139 . You can use that to find him and watch other stuff he lists in the next few days. Good luck!:thmbsp:

i found mine at a Salvation Army in a bundle with a Nak CdP (in use in my system) and a crummy tape player and receiver for $75...they are really great speakers, for sure
