ADS L810 to ADS L710

I have a pair of really nice ADS L810s and I love them, but man can that low end sometimes take over. It's probably my room. Would switching to the L710s help in that regard? None of my amps have tone controls and I recently tried a Schiit Loki, but I didn't like it at all as it altered the character of my warm, laid-back Rega Elicit Mk I too much. I otherwise love the sound of the L810s, good full, rich sound, but forget about playing music like reggae.

I'm just wondering, if everything else you listen to sounds perfect, how will that music sound losing those two woofers?

You might be better off adding an EQ to decrease the bass listening to your reggae and hitting the bypass for the rest.
 
Right? You've a perfect excuse to add an equalizer!! Enjoy!

I have 10 of those woofers in a 15 x 20 ft space. 810's more often then not have been accused of boomy bass. In my space, I've not found that to be a case. However, I cant recall a time I've ever run some Reggae? ... time to change the up this weekend.

There are times when the low end just about covers everything else up, so I'm thinking that maybe the L710s won't have that problem. And that's what I'm asking: do the L710s get really boomy? If not, then I would consider switching up the L810s for the smaller ones.

An EQ is ruled out by the fact that I would have a very hard time fitting it into the very limited space that I have for this equipment.
 
Are the speakers in the corners on the floor? Next to two walls or floor and wall? Are the speakers only backed up to the front wall off the floor and away from the side wall?

Each step lowers the bass boom.

The L710 is a much better balanced speaker as stated.

ok what he said while I was typing. floor counts as wall more adjacents equal more bass.
 
Unfortunately, they are near a back wall and I can pull them out a bit (about 3+ feet), but it doesn't seem to help much. As for the room itself, it's all hard surfaces, including hardwood flooring, but they are on stands.
 
Three feet should be enough, but I'd definitely look into quieting the room a bit.

You can work wonders with carpeting when it comes to acoustics.

If you dare, post a couple photos for additional assistance!
 
My 810's are a good distance from the side walls/corners on 12" stands and I have not experienced any boominess whatsoever.
 
It's kinda sounding like I should move down to the L710s, which I'm OK with. I otherwise love the sound of the ADS speakers.
 
I could help you out and take those 810s. Just kidding but really had a hard time getting my speakers just right, got my own room in the basement. Furniture etr does get in the way sometimes. Can you try out or do you know somebody that you can try them out?
 
I couldn’t quite get the 810s to work in my space when I had a set. I have no doubt they could shine in a better suited room. If space is an issue then the 710s are just easier to live with. I’ve heard good things about the 1090 too if an even smaller footprint would be desirable.

The L710s? I do not know anyone with those. I would be totally taking a chance based on deduction.
 
They do have a following, not hard to move them. You have a better chance in your area of getting them than me. Always see them coming up on both coasts. Been looking for some myself. Let me see if I can find some near you.

A/D/S has alot of nice sounding speakers don't put yourself in a box, unless you are set on 710's. I have 810's to boomy....no....for me a little thick in the mid range area, but that's being picky. Still a good sounding speaker. I have L 880's and 1290/2's also, both sound better to me than the 810's. In the 810's defense those models are newer. Many Choices out the in A/D/S universe.
