Mine are currently set up like this, horizontally, with tweeters at ear level. However, I think at some point I will want to have them on stands oriented vertically with tweeters approximately ear level. And of course, I still have some repair to do in terms of recapping finding a replacement grill or two and a little woodwork.View attachment 1449364
I usually have Marantz Imperial 6s in my front system but I do switch out my KLHs because they sound so nice. They are sitting on Realistic Optimus speaker end tables. The tweeters are at ear level when seated on the couch.
That’s awesome. I’d like to setup a system in the bedroom but, well, she doesn’t want that either so that’s a battle for another dayI just re-did our systems in the house. The main one I listen to, and a nice little system upstairs for a second listening space that is more near-field, and will provide nice sound while watching TV, in the space my wife and daughter like to use for their shows (This is Us, stuff like that). I thought they would really like it. And I was all excited that I was putting everything together with not very much money, and using a lot of stuff we already had. My wife said the speakers are too big, and look too 80's/90's. *sigh*. But, she is letting me keep it there and I am sure will come to enjoy it.
Approximately how tall are the stands you are using please? I would love some like you have, but may have to just make or order some. Probably from wood. Do these have any angle to them?
Yeah, this is kind of a bonus room at the top of the stairs, which could have been a bedroom if we closed it in. A nice little space. This is not the shelving that will be there eventually, but just a test set up. Note the vintage "Flipper" VHS tape there on the old VHS/DVD player. That’s awesome. I , too , have both , recapped , and the KLH are superior .I have OLA, Advent/1, and KLH model sixes and twenty. All have been recapped, refoamed and/or redoped.
The KLH speakers are keepers, like forever. The Advent/1 are gone. They were nice, but just could not compare to either KLH. The OLA have slightly bigger sound and dig a bit deeper than the KLH, but I moved them to my garage.
Yes that helps. I will just end up building something, likely out of wood, and maybe include an isolation pad, that will result in the same dimensions. So the numbers help a lot. Thanks! No problem, matter of fact a fellow AK'er visited last night and asked me the same question.
The stands position the front of the speakers 8" from the floor and angle down to 7.5" in the back giving them a slight upward angle.
I have found that this height and angle works well with all of these types of speakers KLH 6, ADS L520 etc.
Sorry, I would also like to have another set of these stands but I just can't find them.
Hope that helps!
This is good to know. I remembered Advents fondly from back in the day, but did not recall KLH's. I sure like mine, even though they need work. This cools any advent GAS I would have had. Not that I need any more speakers anyway.I , too , have both , recapped , and the KLH are superior .

You're right. They're not original. The woofers on my have five screws and looks different than the original woofers. I've decided to keep them but I want to hunt down some original woofers
And so it begins. The rabbit hole looks so inviting, like you could willfully back out at any point. You think it starts with something simple, like say, original woofers. Then it's caps. Next, you're gonna need just the proper amp for them. And well, then you might as well get a nice little turntable to complete the system. All the while you're trying to convince the wife you can stop at any time. And you will. Just after you acquire . . .Yeah I’ve decided to keep them. Like you said, at $50, what’s the harm. The main reason I was considering selling a pair is because I’m limited with space and my wifey Just busts my balls over anything she can. The woofers arent original....I’m going to be searching for a pair of original Woofers for them
That’s funny as hell. I’m deep in the hole already and love it. Wifey HATES it, but that’s expected lol. I do my thing and keep my stuff out of her area. Just picked up a pair of Dynaco A25s to add to the collection. Refinished them, redid the grills, and had em recapped. Sound amazing. Running them thru a little Lepai amp, and it surprisingly powers them great. I’ll move them over to my other setup one day. Also grabbed a pair of Bose Interaudio 4000s and to my surprise - holy moly! They sound excellent (Bose sound excellent!!?! Blasphemy!!) My KLH Model Sixes are my pride and joy. I can listen to them hours and hours. Placement for both my speakers setups are not very good. I do what I can with the space I have availableAnd so it begins.
