This is a very nice pair of "Large" Advents I am going to pick up later. No more info available from seller, as it is an Estate. The price was right, ($50.00) but these look different from the Original Advents I have seen. Are these a newer variant? How would these compare to Advent Heritages?

Looks like the "New" Advent Loudspeaker. The later 5012 and 25th anniversary models look the same, though...

Still one of their very good speakers. It looks like nla's with bull nose fronts to me but as others have stated they could be a number of respectable advents.
 
Expect to have to refoam them. If it's at an estate, you may be able to get a better price if you pull the grill and they see massive cracking or chunks of surrounds missing. Don't touch the surrounds yourself; you don't want them thinking you "broke" them. :no:

Tell them it will cost you $30 for a DIY kit or $30 apiece plus shipping both ways to get them fixed and they may give you an accommodation.
 
Yes, I think I will buy the Pioneer 650 also. It too is in excellent condition, though I definately don't need it, I can't see leaving it behind for $40.00 either. Are the A3/A4 Advents any more/less desirable than the originals?
 
Got a pic without the grille? And, what does the label say or look like (pic again).

Otherwise, they look in pretty decent condition, driven by the Pioneer receiver should be a great match!

IMHO the bullnose New Large Advents are the most desireable. +1 on likely needing a refoam.

Yep. You did good. The walnut veneer cabs will be gorgeous once they're cleaned up and oiled (I like Old English lemon oil on mine).

Based on the badges, they're New Advent Loudspeakers. If they were the other models, the badges would be different and in the middle of the bottom instead of in the corner.

Look like NLA to me. Very good possibility they need foam.

Compare to Heritage? WORLDS apart. Not even close, completely different class altogether.
 
I am thinking 5012W considering the logos. Nice speakers.

Except the badges would be in the middle of the bottom of the grilles if they were 5012s instead of in the corner.

I know it's always possible somebody moved the badges but what are the odds?

What is the difference between the NLA A3 and A4 serial numbers?
Are there differences in the drivers or the crossovers?
Do the serial numbers contain the date or year of manufacture?
 
They are the same. The 3 and 4 are just the first number of the complete serial number which has no direct meaning as to date of manufacture. There is nothing in the serial number referring to any date.

There may be minor differences that can apply to any time period of manufacture but functionally, they are no different.

Also "A3" and "A4" are not model numbers at all. Just a convenient reference which has caused confusion over the years.

The "A" means a walnut version of the large, original sized Advent cabinet.

Thank you all for your opinions, facts, and clarifications. I already asked the seller to get a picture with the grilles off. She is the original owner, and wasn't aware the grilles even CAME off. Apparently, they are "stuck". She thought they would tear, and thus wouldn't remove them herself. However, she said she connected them to the pictured receiver and they sound great. I've done surrounds on Advents before, so I'll take my chances.

I take it these should sound better/more accurate than the Advent Heritage's then?

Apparently, she has some "Big heavy, Electro Voice speakers on wheels" in her basement she wants to get rid of too. I was told these were purchased new in the mid 1950's. I can't wait to get over there to take a look.:D
 
GerryC , I own both NLA Advents and the Heritage...As far as the NLA's being "better" its all of course in what one personaly prefers. I felt that my Heritage's sounded extremely good, one review years ago rated their bass distortion at 20hz as one of the lowest they had ever measured FWIW
