Advent Prodigy Towers

Hi I found a pair of Advent Prodigy towers speakers near me. Only problem is that the woofers are in need of refoam. Are these speakers worth refoaming and how much are you wiliing to spend on them? Thanks

These were the first pair of speakers I ever refoamed. A good speaker to learn how to refoam on. I just used some cheap generic foams and some Aileens's Tacky Glue. Gave them to a friend who still loves them three years later. If the speakers are in good shape besides the foams, $30-40 would be the most I would go though I aim for less if possible.

Well worth refoaming - I used a Rick Cobb kit when I did mine.

I have a set of these as well...nice enough for the guest room system, but they didn't make the cut in my main system. I go to Audiodogs in Canada for my foams...always the correct..not generic...kits. You can find them on ebay...

I love my Prodigys. I recommend replacing the capacitors too, even if you just use fresh electrolytics.

Can I use the generic brand from Partsexpress for the kit?

you can, but there are better (and less expensive) alternatives.

I'd use some of the filled fillet boston acoustics style foams, I think....

I'm sure you will enjoy them. If there are any problems once you refoam them, write it up on here. I'd say be as accurate as possible doing your first and let us know how it goes.

For $10, you stole them! These speakers are not difficult to refoam at all and are great sounding. I love my set.

As I said, look for Audiodogs on ebay. They will have the correct, filleted foams made specifically for your Advents. I always go to them for foams...never been disappointed.

I picked up a pair a couple weeks ago in very nice condition for $40, currently have them paired with a pair of Realistic Optimus 1Bs as the Advents don't seem to have much bass. I read somewhere online that they're somewhat picky about placement, my space is pretty small and placement options are limited.
