Advent Waveguide Crossover Schematic?

Ross6860

Super Member
I wanted to try my hand at the Econowave and planning on using a typical Advent Utility configuration with Selenium D220ti, JBL clone waveguide, stock Advent Woofer (at least for now).

There are so many dead links trying to follow all the waveguide posts, I figure I'll just ask.

Anyone have a schematic?

Any real "better bang for your buck" components? Woofer/CD combination?

I already have a set of donor New Large Advents. Woofers are fine and already re-foamed.

Thanks,

Ross

Look at the most recent postings in the main Econwave thread. Someone within the last month or so posted a set of links to another forum where Zilch cross-posted a lot of the information.

Had the right schematic, but thanks for the heads up. Always appreciate a lookout.

Anyone know if the DC300-8 12' Dayton woofer is too big for the Large Advent volume? It will physically fit in the NLA baffle, but not sure about the cabinet volume. I know I need to use different crossover components and the schematic for that particular woofer is posted. Significant improvement over the Advent woofer?

your going to need some type of modeling software like bassbox lite or winisd at least and plug the specs for the woofer in with the Advent box volume.

Thanks for the heads up. The speaker specs indicate it should work in the Advent sealed enclosure volume. Any free-ware for modeling?

PS - Are we not just building a Klipsch clone of some kind? Still fun, but just saying...

Well, Econo meant going with woofers you already have, in the boxes they came with. It did sort of evolve out from that into buying and building from scratch. I've done both, and the most satisfying to me was the re-purposed designs. Me, I'd build the Advent up first and see how I liked it before going off on the spend-more tangent.

I've heard many with both the Advent and Dayton woofer. I would rather have the Advent woof. The project started a long time ago when someone asked if a more modern and less expensive Altec Model 15 could be built.

Many manufactures have now started making, what is basically an eWave.

Reviving this thread to explore an additional aspect of the OP's question. Google search turns up this schematic for Advent Econowave:

This appears to be purposely designed for using a large Advent woofer in ewave setting. Though the generic <95 dB/w crossover seems to be popular with Advent-based ewave builders:
ewave-95dB.png

Builders report satisfying results using the generic crossover for their Advent ewaves. I haven't located the source of the other schematic (file name "post-11993-13819830369258"), much less any build examples or listening impressions. I'm wondering if this was merely proposed or fully developed and tested. Especially curious about where the heck it came from.

Anyone know about this?

That first pic is ( quite obviously, to these eyes ) a Zilch creation .

If you have the mentioned parts ( in the above schematic ), then it would be my first choice for a network.

The one that specifically says "Advent 10" on it, has more HF compensation (and therefore, flatter response out to closer to 20KHz) than the "generic" E-wave schematic. It will be a good choice for home-audio cabinets with woofers that are less than 90dB sensitivity @ 1 watt.

Regards,
Gordon.

Hey Gordon, is that the Jensen made Advent 10"? I have a set of those, and a spare set of waveguides and D220Ti...

Alrighty then ... looks like this is worth pursuing. Already have parts for the generic crossovers, JBL waveguides, D220Ti's and 2 pair of Advent woofers ("NLA" type). Expecting delivery of parts for "Advent 10" crossovers on Monday.

Also recently acquired some Dayton waveguides and sale-priced Dayton DT250T-8's (thank you GordonW for recommendation and EarlK for sale alert, posted in the giant econowave thread).

I'll soon be making sawdust for 2 sets of Advent ewaves, with component variations to mix, match and compare.

The PT-D95HF is a different waveguide. 8x8 bolt-on. Some more info here...

Wonder if that waveguide is still available from JBL Pro? Screw on version (364700-001) was very inexpensive. Price list from 2011 has 'em at US $15 each.

Edit: These were $30.56 about a year ago, according to member nbriles2000 in the econowave thread. Still a good deal. I'll try reaching out to JBL Pro Parts on Monday.

The woofers would be the "10 inch in a 12 inch frame", original-type Advent woofers.

Gordon.

Hi Stuart,

( To the best of my knowledge ), that 8"x8" waveguide mentioned above ( 364700-001 ) was never available as a dedicated 1" screw-on, entry horn.

( Instead ), as is typical of JBL ( & has been for the better part of a decade ) they make ( most of ) their PT guides with a 1.5" bolt-on entry.
- If one wants to lash-up a 1" screw-on, then one wants to use JBL's adapter ( PN# 339308-001 ).

Frankly, Zilch was a bit remiss in not emphasizing all this enough for those caught-up in JBL's obtuse numbering schemes.

Read this thread ( by non-other-than "nbrile200" ) because it strongly suggests that JBL has decided to revisit their pricing on this waveguide ( perhaps to put it out of reach of the diYer ).
- This might be due to product protection, etc. etc. ( really, IDK )

Instead, I'd look at using the EOS8 ( a clone of the 18Sound waveguide XT120 ) , available from DIYSG ( click the pic ).

Peruse the E-Wave mini thread for ideas.

:)

It was available, I have a pair combined with a set of JBL LE-10's that sound wonderful. Pics somewhere in the E-Wave thread...
