Advice on several amplifiers

Hello,

I am looking to buy a used amp, I found several postings around my area:

Technics SU V6
SONY TA-N55ES

I am looking to use this amp to power a pair of bookshelf speaker, and maybe, a more sophisticated set-up (in the future). I can pick up either the Technics SU V6 or SONY TA-N55ES directly from the dealer. The others will have to be shipped.

Which is better?

Also, these are other amps that I am consider. However they must be shipped:

Onkyo Integra A-8450
Yamaha AX-630 Stereo Integrated Amplifier Amp
Hitachi HA-3 amp

I’ve never heard any of them but if I had to choose by looking at naked pics of their guts I’d be all over that Sony. You’ll need a preamp with it though.

Hi @Vlad Yuar,

You may want to look into a new amp, new chip amps can be had for not so much money. Take a look at LM3886 amps. If you are only driving one set of speakers, a chip amp will sond better than most used receivers you will find on CL. :)

If I were purchasing any of the above stated amps I'd go with the Yamaha.

The Sony TA-N55ES is a power amplifier so it needs a pre-amplifier

The others are integrated as in pre-amp and power amp integrated onto one chassis.

I know nothing about Onkyo so no comment. Never owned any Onkyo and never sold the brand in over 30 years in that business.
The Hitachi seems like the runt of the litter you chose.
I respect Yamaha and and over time, owned a couple of pieces and sold probably thousands of units during 17 years with one retailer. When new, I honestly felt Yamaha was the best dollar value out there.
But in this case, among the makes/models you listed, I would give the nod to that Technics.
 
If you are buying for the long term I would pass on all of them. If this is an intermediate step maybe the Technics, but I would continue the search myself.

That all depends on your ear... not sure if one has better build qualities or uses anything different between the 2. Only you will be able to decide what sounds da better...

A single set of bookshelves, your better off with a small single input amp...

The amp pictured is one I use for BT, my phone. sound stage is fantastic. While I have more expensive amps, this chip amp is on par with some of the better of them. If you are worried about tone controls... don't... and if you really wanted them they make one with controls. I use the EQ on my devise. I've ran a single Phono stage to it as well for LPs, nothing but warm clear beautiful sound... CDs, spot on. Have my iPod connected now. For the price you won't beat the sound stage...

The LM3886, it's a fantastic amp. On par with my Onix amp. Nice and warm, yet super clear. Lacks nothing. I'm driving some L-26s with it (35w) and the amp is rated at 68Wpc. I tried it with the 4401s, some Genesis 2, and Snell E IVs. Snells require a little more power, but not bad at all... the Snells are full on toweres, with massive crossovers, so for this little amp to powere them like it did is quite impressive.

For bookshelves... fantastic sound stage.

Build quality is quite impressive as well. I have a thread on the amp, good pix of the guts. If you search LM3886 amp the thread will show up.

They also have a 2.1 configuration but I don't run a sub, nor does this amp require one... but If one felt so inclined to do so they can. :)
 
No direct experience with any of the listed amps, but I once owned the Tech's big brother, the TOTL SU-V9. Clean, powerful and good looking. I have to assume the SU-V6 would be very similar.
 
In this category I would avoid adding shipping costs to anything if at all possible. Or I guess you could get on Bartertown here and see what is available.

Yessir, I am definitely a fan of Technics from this era. Every time I've gotten one the performance has surprised me. For the SU-V6, there is plenty to like -

I would go with the Technics myself also. Never heard a bad word. As they say. It as I'm saying now. :p

Thanks man. I'll have to check that out when I have time. I'm impressed with that little thing. And at that price. I'm not sure how you can go wrong.

I wonder if you can just buy the amp board by itself and DIY. Seems like you could make it even better if they do. Although I'm sure it's quite nice just how it is. Sounds perfect for single driver full range speakers.
