Advices for freshly bought JBL L100 Century

Hello all AKers! :)

My first post here, I've been reading you for some time from France and I appreciate all the content. A real resource for all Hi-Fi enthusiasts, well done!

I come to the subject.
I will soon be receiving a pair of beautiful JBL L100 Century. Perhaps not the most faithful but what an endearing object!

I currently have a Scott A436 amplifier and a Thorens TD-166 Mk2 but I would like to move on to something else. What do you recommend ?
I find the Marantz (2270-2275) very beautiful, but I'm afraid the sound will be too colorful with the L100. Ditto for the Sansui (8080-9090db)?
Maybe a Yamaha CR-2020?

It becomes very hard to find these monuments of the 70's at a decent price, especially in Europe ...

Last question :

Which diameter of speaker cable do the original terminals of the L100 accept? I don't want to change them.

The JBL L-100 I use seem to sound good on a wide variety of sources. Really like them connected to tube amplifiers.

As to the wire connections. The orignal JBL designed ones have a very small hole for the wires to go into. Also are known to come apart. A true weak point and were quickly replaced with 5 way binding posts before use by me. Only need to remove the woofers and two screws holding the orignal. The banana style or much larger wire ends are easily accepted.

I mean the one who will flatter these iconic speakers.

Also, is it true that the L100 Century have a warm and colorful sound ?

Back in the day many audio shops in the DC area demoed JBLs and the L100 speakers with Yamaha receivers - typically CR1020 or CR2020.
While you can get by with 40 w/ch, its helpful to have more power for the peaks in your music.
You don't need to turn it way up to appreciate having a margin of power.
