Affordable high wattage speakers?

Don't really care about the brand...but size is imperative...looking for large 3 way or 2 way speakers that get as low as 30-40hz at good DB that are affordable and in a relatively small package (around 20" H and 11" W...debth less important...but not extremely deep.

Budget 50-150$....I have too many high wattage amps that are more than what I need corrently since I traded my quadraflex speakers.

Well, just because the amps are capable of high power output doesn't mean you have to make them do it (re. needing "high wattage" speakers).

Well it's not a matter of needing to push the amps....it's a matter of getting my speakers to a higher peak sound....they stop abruptly and any higher will blow them...which is alright for some listening but if I want to get very into the music zone I'll call it...the more DB the better...it's my inspiration....the louder it is the more I'm able to focus on what I'm doing...which is handicapped currently due to the lack of total wattage....can't push my speakers past 40w max wpc.....which is a bit frustrating....I use music as inspiration....I have a pair that can handle 100+wpc...but they are too big for my desk.

so, it sound like you want sheer volume. If that the case don't get overly focused on interpreting wattage as volume. Efficiency is probably more important that wattage specs, as a 91db sensitivity speaker will be be approximately twice as loud an a speaker with an 88db sensitivity rating. and a 94db speaker will be twice the percieved volume as the 91db speaker in the same envirinement. So, an 88db sensitivity rated speaker that is capable of 100 watts RMS wont be able to keep up with a 94db speaker rated at 50 watts. You have to look at the big picture.

That said, consider putting a Bose 901 driver load in a more conventional "box" that meets your dimension requirements.

Then you're screwed because a couple dinky little drivers that will fit in that space aren't going to handle much power, nor likely to go as deep as you want.

As someone mentioned, look more towards higher sensitivity rather than higher power handling in that form factor. This will be at the expense of the bass you want.

That might work, but don't forget the custom EQ with about 40dB of bass boost and 20dB of treble boost.

Which 901 Woofer? I have some speakers I want to re-purpose because the bass is great though they have a peak and then start to push past the surrounds and rattle. (Least that's what I think is going on.....before a speaker blows-so I turn it down.)

The speakers are 8" screw to screw diagonal, 7 3/4" foam to foam (It's the reversed so that the surround is sticking in not out) around 6" at edge of woofer cone/inner foam)....not sure how standard measurement is.

I think you're missing the point of Hoffman's Iron Law -

1) Bass Extension

2) Efficiency

3) Small Enclosure

The law is that you can only have two of these three attributes in speaker building. Ideally we would want all three, we want speakers with good bass, can play really loud, and are small. Unfortunately we cannot have all these.

Well given that I've had 100-200wpc bookshelf speakers with louder but not as accurate bass....I think I can achieve something decent. They're not as it sounds...and an 8" woofer is small but not that small. The mentioned bookshelf speakers were generic bookshelf speakers by sharp, no mid but a low and a high. These are 2 to 2 1/2 times larger than those speakers but those sharps could get louder than these. I'm definitely not an expert on audio laws or facts....I may be extrapolating on what you have already said but it sounds like you're saying efficiency is at the cost of bass? Or is this only with low wattage speakers?

On the size of the speakers, nothing is set in stone the enclosures could be 3-4" larger in any depth/height/width....those measurements in the original post were just what my realistic optimus 2B are measured to give an estimate.

Though re-purposing these optimus 2B speakers would be the cheapest.

Pick any two of the three, is what it says.

If you want bass extension out of a small cabinet it means low efficiency.

If you want a small cabinet and high efficiency it means less bass extension.

If you want bass extension and efficiency it means you will need a large cabinet.

I want bass and mediocre or average/decent not spectacular treble so I would say the first.

My take is that sound quality is riding in the "way back"(behind the seats in a station wagon) on this trip.

Heck, a hefty percentage of folks running proper 901's are doing so sans the proprietary EQ. I know that's the weakest of arguments. But, if i didn't say it, somebody else eventually would.

I would recommend an unconventional route. Pick up a set of klipsch heresies and a decent 12" subwoofer. That allows you to crank like all hex, and you can turn the sub up until it drowns out the heresies.

All your friends will be impressed.
