Yes! For those who don't know Tatra, it was a Czech deal. It was like the Russian Cadillac. Rear engined, V8, air cooled streamlined.....crazy car that they built forever.

He has the largest Tatra collection in the free world. Everyone should check out the collection at the museum. Tatra is just a slice of an incredible collection of **** you never imagined! (all cars and bikes)

PS: Oh! That green thing with yellow wheels where the link opens? That was my 65 Lotus Super Seven until I got paralyzed!

This was the Czech motorcycle equivalent to the Tatra as a very different one-man vision and product.

Peter Keetman's book; "Volkswagen: A Week At The Factory" is a great look back at the state of 1953 VW production - its assembly lines and its stores of parts/vehicles. Artfully shot in B/W.

News Flash - they were rather anal retentive about everything.

Had a brand new '71 VW Fastback that we called a "Kafer" (bug).

Was great on gas, fair on the corners, and the looks were so so...but it was reliable, and much warmer in the Winter than the "Beatle". It did in fact, have one of the first integrated gas heaters that more than did its job, but selecting the right temp was a chore.

Used to buy rusted out Vw Beatles and my dad , his friends and my brother and me would make dunebuggys out of them ! Mine had a champion racing frame with raised bars and comfy Monza bucket seats with fenders cut down from trailer fenders turn signal brake and lights and had a towbar brackets welded on the front for easy towing they would climb hills like a billy goat would !

I loved driving my friend's dune buggies on the sands of Glamis! He had a sand rail with a hopped-up 2000cc VW engine. It was like flying. :thumbsup:

Question for any vintage VW experts residing here. In every picture I've ever seen of the old busses and trucks that had semaphores, they were mounted up in the B pillar just behind the front driver / passenger windows. Then there's this one pictured below where they're mounted down by the door handle. I've never seen another like it, has anyone else?

That is an interesting pickup — a four-door.

All semaphore VWs I've seen have the indicators on the B-pillars.
 
Seeing twin cabs makes me nostalgic. For about 8 years I had a 12V/Canadian 64 TCPickup. Went on my honeymoon init in 72. Towed my 65 1275S back from Binghamton with it. Wish it was still around! The 69 single cab that replaced it kinda sucked.
