After one round of play, I am not as confident in Kentucky as I was. Arkansas finished second in the SEC and barely scraped by Wofford and LSU finished 3 and got dumped by the 7th place finisher in the ACC, NC State.
I bet KY vs the field two days ago, today I take the field.

I am wishing I had picked another champ. There are just too many others with K-Y ahead of me to catch. Shoulda known better.

Any feedback on the new scoring system?
I was going to post a "What If?" screen shot showing what the scores would be if we had the traditional/default scoring and also the alternative bonus system (multiply instead of add) , but it seems to be locked. I was somewhat disappointed because I wanted to see how multiplying by the seed number was going to impact later rounds.

FWIW, I prefer the traditional scoring because it seems to me that the seeding numbers can make up for a lot of other screw ups. One Cinderella could wreak havoc on well picked bracket. Adding is bad enough, but multiplying could really mess things up.
Is there a scoring breakdown were we could see how it affected our scores? I guess we could just manually rescore and see what the standings look like then.

Different scoring system makes it a different game. You have to weigh the benefits of taking chances. I was not gonna do all the math, I just left my bracket as it was rather than get out the slide rule.
The multiplying thing was a little too scary in the late rounds. Don't forget, even with the old scoring method the rounds are weighted.

I didn't see any, but didn't do an exhaustive search. There were plenty of upsets on Thursday, but AFIK nobody exploited them. Let us know if you see one when you recalculate everyone's brackets, will ya?

Here's some more fun while we are waiting for today's games to start! I can't change the format at this point, but I can add players. I took the liberty of adding the four "Experts" whose advise we apparently all ignored.
I used the "autofill" option to populate their brackets with their own picks.
Their positions are tied for 9th, 11th, 13th, and 19th. And these guys do this for a living? Jerry Palm may need to rethink the bracketoligist thing.:scratch2:
UAB and Georgia state look like the only Cinderellas left. Let's see how their 14 pt bumps affect the rankings today should they win. Fortunately, with the weighed rounds, the effect is lessened every round. Multiplying would be batshit crazy as a 10 seed would get an extra 40 points for winning a Sweet 16, or 80 for an Elite 8, which could overtake a more "accurate" card w/o the wildcard pick.
Since many of us made similar pics, the effects should be pretty much equal and therefore balance. and the guys who picked a longshot and lost are only minimally disadvantaged as the favored winner was a high seed with a low add on.

Well, since the games are all 1 point now, it's just a matter of counting wins. High score would be 26, low 20; just look at the standings. There would be a 6 point spread, not a 46 point one....
Next round is 2 pts, so just copy today's wins as of now, subtract them from Monday's wins and add that difference to the Monday's wins and you'll see the effect after two rounds. Say today's wins are 24 and Monday's is 36. Your score under regular scoring would have been 36+(36-24)=48. you only need to add one since the win total already has one of the two points/win in the total.
It does get messier though every round...

The "experts" do the seeding. We second guess them as do the sports analisis guys when we make our picks.

But if you picked a longshot and lost, you have given up potential wins beyond that point. Say someone picked Stephen Austin to go the Sweet 16. If they make it is yields big bonus. You know, like Steve Austin:

When you filled in your bracket you had the option to autofill using their picks, or go with the most popular picks, or a random pick based on some formula. These guys are real humans, and Hairy Palm is the CBS Sports resident Bracketologist and BCS expert, too.
