Those are one of Jackgiff's projects from over in the EconoWave thread.

I posted it here to illustrate the concept of "flats" we're talking about.

I'm hoping he'll make up some crossover PC boards for us, though I haven't approached him about that yet.

I'll PM Dave about sending him the sample baffles. We still need Ray to confirm the driver cutout and counterbore dimensions.... :thmbsp:

Darn, Zilch, you are trying to get me a job, aren't you? I could cut up some "flats", and can lay out a crossover, but I am from the "old school." My layouts are done with tape and donuts, not Cad. And once done, there are photographers in town who could make positives, so I could mail them out. Don't know how much positives would cost, but PC boards are really easy to etch and drill. I have been using the Econowave PC boards for most of my useage, with the HF compensation just sort of "hung on." Davids new speakers will require a new crossover, so we might as well adapt the Indignia design with what it takes to make Davids work, if possible. Clue me again where your crossover schematic is, so I can look at it.

And the flats can be pretty much ready to assemble, but I would rather the buyer did the drilling and countersinking. That just makes a big mess in my garage, and makes Mama unhappy when I coat her car with sawdust. The cutting is done down at the shop, so wouldn't impact my home life.

Those cabinets are CHEEEEP.

Wow, for $71 you get an entire cabinet with baffle, grille, box, etc. I sure don't want to try to compete with those dudes. It just wouldn't make sense, unless someone wanted some really neat veneer, like walnut burl, or Mappa burl. And he could cover one of their veneered cabinets just as easily. That is best left to the mechanized guys. I am all hand made when it comes to cabinets. One offs.

Crossover layouts are something else. I will do a layout for the Indignia, and make sure it can be adapted to fit Davids speakers. Once done, I can furnish a positive photo copy, and maybe some computer nerd here can turn it into a computer file for making PC boards. Or I can mail them to whoever wants to try making their own. It is fun, easy, and very self fulfilling to make your own PC boards.

I need about a week or so to order some more layout supplies, since mine stash is shot. I will let you know when it is done.

That'd be GREAT, Jack. It can certainly be made more compact than my 3" x 6", even.

This is DIY. Once you have the film, perhaps you'll give us all a tutorial on how to turn that into boards.... :thmbsp:

Dang, I must have missed that. Didn't know we were waiting on me. From the memory of cutting things out I think you were ok but I'll go check 'em out sometime today. I've got them stripped down for finishing right now.

Another option that could be considered for the crossovers is the use of turret lugs to solder things, too. You can insulated and uninsulated turrets. That way, you can use the copper on the PCB as ground and keep the + off the board on the turrets. Not sure how much expense that would add to the mix but probably too much for a project of this type.
 
I'd like to put in a tentative request for serial numbers 0007 and 0008, pending picture posting and installation of the port.
My internet at home is good old slow dial up, so I'm going to hold up posting pictures until I'm on a faster connection at work tomorrow.
To be honest, they aren't quite complete. I haven't yet install the port, stuffed the boxes, or applied a finish to the boxes. But the hard work is complete. The crossovers are built and installed, and the cabinets constructed. I'm pretty proud of the cabinets. They're built from red oak harvested from my parents property, milled by a local guy, and planed in my uncle's wood shop.
Anyway, they sound pretty good even without stuffing or the port installed! I'll get you fine folk those pictures right soon.

So I meant to mirror the baffle on the second one, but I was grooving to the tunes a bit too much whilst measuring, and made a really thick, deep pencil mark in the non mirrored location. Not wanting to sand of an 1/8th of an inch from the whole thing, I just left it. Maybe I'll replace that baffle eventually. Maybe.

Like my high buck photography stands? :D
 
Those look great!

Now get those ports in there! Without the ports you've pushed up the tuning frequency which means you've pushed up the point where the woofer will unload to probably around 50Hz. That means that anything bass heavy could destroy the woofers if you're not REALLY careful with the volume.

OK, heres your artwork.

This is the layout for the Indignia V3.5 xover. It will be photographed tomorrow, and I will build you one board for checkout purposes.

I left it at 3X6, since that is a standard sized PC board ready to etch. Trimming them is a pain in the "you know where."

I am obsolete!

Took the V3.5 artwork to Color Factor, where all my photography was done for the last umpteen years. I hoped they would remember me, since retirement was three years ago. Rick said, "We don't do that anymore, Jack. We can't get the materials for our camera. We can't even use the camera anymore."

What a revolting development. CAD and Gerber files have usurped my place in the world. No room for an "old school guy" anymore.

Rick will try to scan my layout, and convert it to film somehow, so we will probably be OK for this pass. Next time, this kid is going to have to learn CAD.
