AK Design Collaborative - Insubnia

I decided to build a 3 Pi Sub. It is really not so big, and proven, without significant compromise. I thought the insibnia's footprint would be good for my apt., but it's really not that much better, though very different, in terms of form factor, and the performance of the 3 Pi sub is all that I would ever need and much more.

Starting with one, then will probably build a second for a "flanking" arrangement. Have not decided if the cab will look industrial or interior design friendly.

The LAB12 driver was originally designed as a project on the Live Audio Board (hence LAB). I have the link to the project somewherebut I'm out and about on my phone right now. Try searching for that and see what you find. I seem to recall it being a horn design but it's been a while.

I am just expecting the woofer. With shipping the price is the same or better than any retailer, so I supported Pi.

I will probably have it next week, so I will let you know if anything else comes with it.

I have contacted a local cabinetmaker, I will send him plans and get a quote.
This guy is a high end furniture dude, though. We'll see.

I intend to put in a BASH plate amp, maybe the 500 watt one, though I feel I could happily use the smaller one.

i bought two of the 3 Pi sub kits a few months ago, it includes the driver and the terminal cup (which seems to be the Gold Recessed 5-Way Banana Speaker Terminal Rectangle from Parts Express). The wire is presoldered to the terminal cup.

Cool, and I just found out the port tube is included as well. Mine is on the way.

I ordered a flat pack and an Anarchy several weeks ago. I was impressed with how well the flat pack was boxed up. Easily one of the best shipping experiences I have had yet. Over the last several weeks I have been assembling, and staining the insubnia. I want to say that the flat packs make assembling this VERY easy (easier than the trap cabs!); my issue is finding time to work on this. In all honesty anyone that can follow the included EASY to follow directions can build this in a long evening. Those of us that lose ourselves in the details making certain every little thing is up to our standards (sanding, sanding, sanding, sanding) expect it to take longer. I want to add that the finish on the baltic birch is EXTREMELY good, I'm just a bit on the OCD side. Now, if I can block out more than 20 min at a time to work on this I might be able to finish it!

Now for a question:
Is the Acoustical Cotton necessary? How does it affect the sound?
 
I am a bit confused. I've read through all the post but can't seem to find all the components for the Insubnia. I see links to other folded subs, but not specifically Insubnia. What am I missing?
 
Ok, I finally completed this sub and all I can say is WOW. I honestly don't understand how people run MULTIPLE subs. I have mine hooked up to a 225w Dayton A/B plate amp and in many cases it is too much sub, but once I finish building my preamp I'll have more control over the sub output and I'm sure I'll be able to turn it down to the levels I want.

As for the sound ... IT sounds AMAZING. It is my perfect sub. Tight clean sub bass and it REALLY stretches down low. It perfectly compliments my econowaves and I can't wait to hear it with my indignias when I'm finished building those. My brother in-law has a B&W 15" sub in his system, and this little beast not only stretches lower, and plays cleaner with more punch, I would be hard pressed to say he can get any louder. I couldn't be happier.
