AK Newbie IN Tennessee

Welcome from another Tennessean a few counties south of you! Where is Hayes Electronics? I lived in Sparta for 2 years back in the mid-1970's, but it surely has grown and changed since then.
My shop, Hayes Electronics, is just about 3 miles south of the Sparta city limits in White County. Sparta hasn't grown nearly as much as, say, Cookeville. It's still tiny. We have a Super WalMart (who doesn't?), Sonic, KFC, Arby's, McDonalds, Hardees, Subway, 2 pawn shops, 3 liquor stores, 8 gas stations, 3 small bars (one was here when you lived here. Webb's Package Store, now J.R.'s Place. It is just out of the city limits on the Doyle road just past the National Guard Armory and around Wheat's Curve), 4 thrift shops and 10 churches. No malls. No Home Depot or Lowe's. There's still nothing to do here and people in passing cars still wave whether they know you or not. It's boring and I love it. I spend the vast majority of my time in my shop, anyway. I built it on my property and only have a 30 foot walk to work. It's 2000 square feet which allows me to not only use it for its intended purpose, but to use it for my hobbies and work on my vehicles in it. 960 Golden Herren Rd., Sparta, TN 38583. Google Map it and look at the satellite view or the street view. We are off of the beaten path and I like it. A few counties south? Where? Dunlap?

Hello, everyone. My name is John and I am the owner/technician at Hayes Electronics in Sparta, TN. I have been in the electronics repair industry for 39 years, repairing just about anything that graces my doorway. With TV repair circling the proverbial bowl, I decided a while back to shift my focus to vintage audio repair. In short order, I found myself addicted (I'm sure you folks have no experience with that ;) ) to not only repair and restoration, but (much to my wife's chagrin) acquisition. So, I finally made the jump from unregistered lurker to registered newbie here. Thanks for having me!
Welcome, a friend of mine in Chattanooga likes your work. Hope you enjoy your stay at AK. Post well, wisely, and often!

Thank you, Kent. Chattanooga, eh? I don't recall a customer from there, but I have had too many customers over the years to remember all of them. I do, however, have family there. Hmmmm,.....

Thanks for the welcome! Never had anyone say it to me. I have heard other Sparta natives say it to folks who were not from here, though.

Welcome to AK from a fellow Tennessee boy! Born and raised in Maryville, a few miles from Knoxville. Living in New York City right now, or otherwise I'd be knocking on your door with a Setton receiver that needs some love.

Thanks. I have been to Maryville many times. If you make it back down south, bring that Setton with you. I'd love to dig in to that one!

Thanks. Feel free to hit me up any time regarding your projects. I'll help however I can. And, one of my closest friends lives in Clinton. He's an HVAC guy by day and a musician by night. He plays guitar and sing for Whiskey Icarus and is a long time member of the AC/DC tribute bands Big Gun and Hells Bells out of Knoxville.
