AK Retiree Club

Yup, they're counting on the fact that you don't make it too far past the average expiration date. I started collecting at 62.
I took mine at age 62 also, and retired from the VA on my 62nd birthday after exactly 10 years with them doing disability claim appeals. So I get my USAF retirement, VA Disability, SSA, VA retirement, TSP from the VA, and some Roth IRA's I've had for 20+ years. I make more $$ sitting on my arse than my wife does working full time (nurse).

I'm retiring this week and know that I seen lots of members posting who are retired so I thought about giving this a shot. I thought we could talk about what we're doing with our time and share a few ideas with each other. I'd like to hear about favorite travel destinations, your life since you left the daily grind, activities and hobbies besides audio. Maybe tip each other off on how you make a few bucks on the side ;)
I just turned 65, I'll be getting SS and a pension + I have a 401 so things should be pretty good. The wife wants to work a little longer so I said HAVE AT IT BABE! LOL. I hope to start having a little more fun by not just having weekends for leasure. I'll be leaving for a beach vacation shortly and plan on starting a new life!
Anyone else new to retiring? How about some long timers perspective :beerchug:

When people ask if I'm retired, I ask them if they know the movie The Princess Bride. There's the scene when Wesley has been tortured to death and they bring him to Miracle Max to bring him back to life. And Miracle Max, after examining Wesley, says (something like) "that's what you know - he's not dead, he's just MOSTLY dead." So I tell people I'm mostly retired.

I was fortunate enough to exit a business about two months before the pandemic got going (kept a very small interest) but no longer running things. I had not planned on retiring but figured I would take some time, do some traveling with my wife, and then decide if/when I wanted to return to business life. Of course the pandemic disrupted everything and I decided to sort of take a wait and see attitude, fortunately, by then I did not have to go back if I didn't want to. So far, so good, but I do miss the amount and variety of the people and the various business connections and interactions. I do not miss the stress. And it's given me the time to try to relearn what I used to know about electronics 50 years ago or so. And to do some woodworking, which I always enjoyed. Latest project I just started is a Luxman L-10 repair/restoration.
