Akai 747-GX 747 damaged plastic insert front door

I just bought an Akai 747 GX and the plastic insert on the front folding door is slight damaged.

I would like to take the insert out and spray paint it but am afraid that I might damage it whilst doing this.
The top and bottom do seem to be loose but the two sides are fairly well stuck.
Any suggestions?

The service manual doesn't show exactly how the Amp Cover Part (Ref 14-54) is attached to the Left and Right Hinge Bases (Ref 13-9 and 13-10). It should be possible to remove the Amp Cover Part, mask it off and paint the bezel insert without having to remove it. You would need to find a spray paint to match the original paint and properly prepare the bezel surface for painting. As MRL-Audio indicated, that is a lot of work to correct a very small issue which also introduces the risk of doing more damage than good..

Yes I have looked but it is not mentioned in the manual. I have been able to get it out. It was held in place by glue. I was able to get a thread under it from the inside and by pulling that back and forth have been able to get it out. I have also now bought a silver spray paint which comes very close to the original Will post a photo when I am done.

Very good. It will be interesting to see the results. Perhaps a couple small dabs of silicone sealant will allow you to re-attach the bezel and make it possible to remove it in the future if necessary. Hope all goes well!

100% agree. Plastic cosmetics in prominent places are almost impossible to improve if they are damaged, any attempts to repair are way more likely to ruin current appearances than improve them. Sometimes you just need to appreciate an object for what it is instead of worrying about imperfections. Beautiful deck, enjoy it.

Hi everyone. Here the final product. I am happy with it. I have included the original foto with the damage indicated. For those wanting to know the process. Degreased with a detergent. Washed off with water. Wet sandpaper 800 the visible parts. Cleaned with tap water. Dried. Spray painted 3 layers off Tamiya Mica silver TS76 (i had to buy 3 different silver sprays before I found the one I like). Then 2 layers of clear coat Gloss. Could also have used mat. Finished product fotos included. Thx for the suggestions and if there are any questions than happy to answer. Regards
