Finally, parts arrived and outside temperature sunk to tolerable. It hasn't been a weather to sit over a soldering job, but a spot of rain this afternoon improved things.
The cleanup made this relatively easy, so much I half expected this to be just the transition to the next problem. But with everything reassembled, I hooked the old receiver up to a phone for testing via AUX and a pair of headphones —
and it just sings, man. I still need to find an antenna replacement, but even without it I did get some fairly clean FM reception. Next test will be hooking it up to a pair of speakers and get a better feel of the sound.
I'm really excited (i)f I managed to revive a unit that brought me a lot of joy through my 20s!

Had the receiver hooked up with the main system the other day. It's a nicer amp than I remembered, with good, clean and powerful sound. I'm glad to keep this as a backup for my Technics amplifier.
Last bits and bobs to get done:
I'm resigned to just cover up the back panel hole where the antenna broke off. There's a switch to toggle built-in and external antennas, too but I'll bypass all that to the external screw connectors. I was never much of a radio guy anyway.
But I'd like to upgrade the speaker connections to take banana plugs like my main amp. I'll have to see if I can manage that without tearing out the entire connector housing inside...
