AKAI GX F90 Cassette Deck - Function Button Issues

The buttonworks pads have a clear square of single sided adhesive, the black pad is on the same side with the adhesive. I essentially did exactly the same application as shown in post #13 of this thread specific to orientation and coverage.

Thanks, @Bone Yard , I'll check those out the videos you noted. These buttons have a little two stage rubber plunger - one that impacts the inner section of the pad, the other being the outer area of the pad. Ideally, once pressure is applied and the smaller nipple is compressed, the new flattened plunger surface somehow activates the circuit. These plungers are very firm but I'm still optimistic! I wish they were simpler, they're incredibly clean, no dirt or junk can even get to this board.
 
With as hard as the nubs are I think that will be my only option as well. I'll give it a go on one or two and report back.
 
I finally got around to trying the buttonworx pads in conjunction with trimming the nubs on each plunger. The trimming was easy, I didn't take of more than necessary, but the pads were as fiddly as it gets. I first tried the black pads, no luck, no functionality gained from any of the buttons. Once you've installed the black pads there's zero room between the end of the plunger and the contacts, so that clearly was not going to work. Then I tried the dome buttons and for a brief shining moment both the play and stop buttons actually worked! But then after trying the same application on other buttons the play and stop no longer functioned, so it was then a game of musical buttons, trying every combination I could to gain back at least play and stop. As a reminder, each attempt at a new button pad/dome configuration required disconnecting the two din plugs on the button panel housing, removing the three screws on the back of the button assembly, apply the new pads, hoping they will adhere, then reassemble, connect the two plugs, then test. I likely did this some 30 times before waving the white flag.

Such a shame, it's really a beautiful deck.
