AKAI Lovers and Collectors...

I've got a nice little AKAI Collection, boomboxes, mini-stereo and R2R. Here's the UC-2 Micro Stereo, just a hair larger than the AIWA 22 but with a ton if LEDs and lights. This JDM Version had a rough ride over and the REC got bent, I don't like to straighten unless I have it all apart. They had more up-market equipment in the 70's and early 80's but got killed by the guy that bought them up.

I dont want to brag, was able to get a Master Reference tuner Akai AT-93 for $80 on FB market place, mint condition and it may be my best digital tuner, is between the Akai and the Auidolab 8000t
 
Yeah the AT-93 is up there with the best vintage tuners imo, picked one up years ago to pair with my AM-93, when I still used it, was always impressed by it's quality, and outstanding reception.
 
i became aware of the AKAI tape decks in Guam when I was in the USAF. solid stuff, I ended up buying an AKAI cassette deck that turned the cassette over to act as auto-reverse. people would come to my house just to see it flip the cassette. later on, I got a Roberts open reel (I knew that Roberts Rheem was the US importer that branded it Roberts, with a built-in 8-track recorder and speakers for monitoring. i went down to the AKAI distributor in Compton CA for the sleeve that slips onto the capstan for 7.5 ips capability. when he asked which deck it was I said Roberts, to which he said-if it were me asking, I would say AKAI, so I did. he GAVE me the capstan sleeve gratis. good experience with both products.
 
I fell in love with the Akai AP-100 as a 13 year old kid in the early 80’s flipping through HI-FI magazines and catalogues my dad would browse. my Garrard sufficed me through the end of the vinyl era though and I never got my Akai… until about a year ago. Now I’m 57 and I had forgotten all about the AP-100 until I happened across one on EBay, and it was affordable and in great shape. I snagged it and I’m in love. Im far from an audiophile, but I appreciate great, crisp, defined sound and I get that from my turntable with an upgraded head shell/cartridge. And it’s unshakeable… my bouncy floors are no match for its stoutness. I paired it with my Marantz 2230 (shown)… but then I got some money to spend and guess what I found?! A gorgeous Akai AA-920 which is currently on its was from New York to my small Midwest town and I’m ecstatic! Can’t wait for it to arrive!

I've long admired Akai gear, particularly their older (1970's) gear and their RTR decks. About a year ago, in three separate deals, I had the opportunity to put together an Akai 80's system consisting of an AA-A45 (bad channel, awaiting repairs) AA-A35, EA-A7 EQ all in silver, and a CD-A7 and DT-A2, both in black. Would love to find the latter two in silver eventually so they all match.

While this series of gear isn't Akai's proudest moment for build quality (lots of plastic and STK outputs) but as a one who grew up in the heydey of the gee-whiz 80's, I love the hyper futuristic all digital "space shuttle cockpit" look with the squared off buttons, touch strip volume control, and massive VF displays. Sure, some people think it gaudy or tacky looking, but I dig it. No current pictures to display as that stack is in storage presently as I redo the room it was setup in. It was certainly one of the most unique looking designs of the era.
 
Just got a set of Akai ASE-22 Headphones which I believe were first made around 1972 .
The volume pots needed some Servisol 10 to free them up and restore functionality.
Pretty Nice sounding vintage cans and I love the 70s look.
Love Akai Gear .These will look nice next to an AA-1175 or similar

Great to finally get the turntable . I love those early Akai receivers also.

Yes it's looks like a museum indeed, but a little one :) If I had bought all the stuf I liked, than you can triple it I think, and that's the problem, I've no space anymore... :(

It's nice to hear that all three of you also have a AKAI unit, and nice one too!

My collection has started with 4 AKAI units of the 'Clarity GX 730 Compo' set,
which was a gift of a friend..., than I got sick... AKAI sick :p

Much later and lots of crap and work brought me this beautiful sets... Thank you all for your interest,

From Akai I have the AT 57 and the AT 2250, quite honestly I have never heard anything playing as well as my Audiolab 8000T.

Nice Akai quad there. I really like how they arranged the 4 channel level controls around the main volume, such a logical idea that I don't think anyone else did. Those are some strange looking fuse holders on the rear, though.

Sometimes I regret selling it. I knew I was going to pick up a "70's receiver new in the box" for $100. When I got there dude also had that Kenwood KW-60 which he threw in for an extra $25. Wound up keeping the Kenwood instead.

I also have a Roberts 800X which is made by AKAI;

I can't say I know anything of the Akai's quad performance (decoding or synthesizing) as I've used nothing but Sansui quad hardware, which I've found excellent in all respects. Most of the Akai quad gear certainly looked distinctive, and was clearly well built.

Their RTR decks were typically excellent, and were it not for the cost to get one now (and that I have 4 RTR machines here already) I'd probably have picked up a GX-625, 635 or 747 by now.
