That AM-2950 is a very nice amp, I know someone who owns one, and have heard it. I'm curious to know if the concentric ring around the volume control lights up, like some of the Pioneer integrated amps.

And I really like the styling of that AM-5000, it's surprisingly good for an amp of the mid 1960's, and kind of reminds me of the Sansui AU-70 just a bit. Most stuff of that time frame looks a little clunky to me, as manufacturers weren't yet putting a lot of focus on aesthetics, as the did in the 70's.

I had a VR5??? 3 head cassette deck and one of my amps decades ago was an Akai. Loved the cassette deck wish I still had it but display went out so in the dumpster it went

Yes, you're right. Both are beautiful and look great. They also play surprisingly well. The AA-5000 has a slightly brighter sound. Yes, the ring in the AM-2950 lights up.

I love the sound of this machine, but she sure is beat up. I found it for $10 at the thrift.

@audioman00, those are so weird looking they are actually cool. I have the follow on models AA-A35 and 45, along with the EA-A7 eq, a matching cassette deck and a CD-D1 CD player. Not the best Akai built, of course, but very 1980's cutting edge aesthetics, and do actually sound decent. Akai definitely went their own way when it came to designing this lineup, and was probably the most radical look of any mainstream brand in the market at the time.
