I once entertained the purchase of a complete used, but absolute flawless mint, low hour Krell System from an Audiogon seller about 6-7 years back.

The price was I thought a good one, but one aspect was, what might've been the horrendous costs of shipping as the icing on the cake. This would've been one probably best being all strapped to a 4x4 Pallet, and shipped Truck Freight.

That system was comprised of a Krell FPB-600 Amp, Krell KRC-HR Pre-Amp, and Krell KPS-20i CD Player.
All remotes, Factory Boxes, all Manuals, the whole smear.

The asking price,$18,000.00.

If anyone knows a little about the FPB-600 Amp, this surely is one that won't sit in any store bought Rack, this is a floor Amp, and a monster that even finding a Floor Stand is going to cost, unless one makes one homemade of course (A bunch of House Bricks, and two 1" thick Sheets of Plywood!). One best have two Hulk Hogans to lift it. Shipping costs might not have been quite so bad dependent upon shipper, and where it would be delivered, which I had the option of a commercial delivery address at the time.

The seller would not budge on the price, I offered $16K, perhaps understandable as it was a good deal even at his asking price, but then started thinking about this system being just a little bit "too much" for me, either meeting his offer, or coming extremely close to it by a few centavos. Perhaps if only to save a few dimes on Shipping.

The massive weight and size of that Amp, and the power usage, foreseeing a dedicated 20A Service run just for the Amp, the heat, and the electric bills! (Might've saved some good money on heating bills in the winter though!) This particular Amp is not one that likes being fired up cold to give up the goods. And what happens in the event that Amp needs service-repair, and to be shipped back to Krell? A nightmare.

I passed, and in ways regretted it ever since.

I went with 2 brand new Bryston 600W 7BSST2 Monoblocks instead, At least I can lift those at about 55 lbs each. LOL

12 tubes is alot ,50watts is very high for a tube amp ,is it not?i never have heard a valve set up to compare to my own
i use sony ES gear ,
have you a pic?
Wow, that is an excellent looking setup. Mine is extremely modest by comparison. But it does exactly what I want. So to answer the Thread Title. All I care about is the sound, Yes.
You won't see my basic gear at the Munich High End Audio Fair.

I am really challenged when it comes to electrical stuff so I have put a pic of the manuals up, that is them. The phono box one is one piece of cardboard opened up as seen. The Amp is three pages as seen. Note the 50 watt reference.

This is a “no frills” amplifier. Only two knobs as seen, one selects source eg CD, Tuner or Phone etc. The other is volume. No flashing digital dials or read outs, equalizers, bass control, treble control etc. The finished recording that the engineer / producer was happy with is what I hear.

The amps were designed by Tim de Paravicini who designed and built Mobile Fidelity cutting system.

True, I would be just as happy if there was absolutely no equipment in the room and all I did was say the name of the tune and the artist and it just automatically fill the room up with absolute realism.

It is a basic ClearAudio turntable i.e. not one of those multi-storied ones that you need a building permit for. The cartridge is, or was at the time, their most expensive MM cartridge.
I have had MI and MC but for the sound I like I choose the MM

I used to think that even gear from the agricultural school of design didn't matter. That was before I saw that Macintosh monstrosity. That is one of the singularly most unattractive collection (actually pile) of gear I've ever seen. Mac should be severely chastised for that abomination. They're asking big bucks for that. I don't get it.

Have you ever listened to a McIntosh system ? I'm sure if you did you would get it
