Although my sister didn't feel it was worth it to get them distemper shots and such. I'm thinking that was a bad choice.



Bad choice is an understatement. Those animals deserved every chance they had at survival. It's a pitty when people take on a responsibility with living breathing animals and fail them miseably. :thumbsdn:

These cats have been getting better treatment than 99.9% of the farm cats around. Last year took them all in (except for one feral cat we couldn't catch) to get fixed so there wouldn't be a hundred of them running around. I spent a lot of time with them last summer taming the feral ones.

We don't put out poison and have everything they could get into put away since they do hang out a lot in my dads shop. I look back now and there was one from an earlier litter that died suddenly last fall. We are working with the vet to do what we can to keep any of the others from contracting the disease that killed the other cats. So far, so good.

Some animals are treated so badly by their owners euthanizing may be best if they can't get a good home. At least they will not suffer any more. I don' like the idea but animals are sometimes kicked, beaten and starved to name a few cruelties. "they shoot horses don't they?"

As for the vet, you need to have one you can trust. They are out their.

cats rule! they must have almost as much fun as otters, so generally the live a long happy life. but sometime someone or something can mess up this balance, with a Kittie hazard or perhaps some A-hole with a gun. hope you figure it out soon.

Damn Denny, I'm as sorry as I can be. Don't let one fool make you blame yourself for what is happening. Anyone who has ever met you, would know that you are doing everything possible to help these animals. You and them are in my prayers bud.

Wow! I would be freaking out and depressed all at once. It sounds like you are doing all you can. The vet can't figure out what it is? I'd try another vet. Seriously. Is there a local college or FHA program that will help with cats? What are the symptoms? If it is that contagious it has to be documented somewhere. If you detail the symptoms here or in a PM I'd be glad to do some research. These are like short furry kids and it does hurt to lose them!
If you live in a warm climate Liver Flukes can be a problem. Then there is heart worm, They will drink antifreeze and it kills them. Change the food immediately if you have not done so already. There have been several recalls on food that caused the death of cats from lack of an essential vitamins and/or contamination. Google the name of the cat food you use. Supplement their diet with cooked ground turkey. Add brewers yeast to make sure it is not a vitamin deficiency. Quarantine some of them somewhere else away from other cats with a change of diet and see how they do perhaps.
