Allow me to stereotype the 'classic audiophile' ...

Again, its not about my personal taste - its about a surprisingly narrow interpretation of what constitutes 'serious' music, but as others have said earlier in this thread I may have mistakenly tarred everyone with the same brush - apologies to those for whom that is the case.

I don't think this proves I'm an audiophile, but to me it's starting to prove my system is, in my mind, audiophile quality. Earlier I was listening to "Hey", by RHCP, and I couldn't find anything wrong. It was loud, dynamic, tonaly, it sounded superb, and the sound stage seemed nearly dead on. I couldn't find a deficiency I thought needed addressed.

In other words, it's how I think the song should sound. I know many here have better systems, but during that song, I felt like my system could compete with anything. I guess that means I don't feel the need to upgrade, at least as we speak, It's a great feeling.

You mean this song aint Audiophile????? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOrv4Cxk1X8

- Opeth, in all their black-fingernails glory

I've always felt most of Opeth's discography sounds really good, especially for metal. Orchid a bit rawish from what I remember. The only other one I felt had an odd sound was My Arms, Your Hearse. The kick drum is too boomy IMO and the guitars sound a little squashed (I guess, I have a hard time describing it), it doesn't sound bad but it could've been better.

I get what you mean with your thread though. I feel like it's a choice between music with awesome SQ but the music does nothing for me or music I enjoy but the SQ can be iffy. It rarely ever seems you can get the whole package. Opeth is one of the few which mostly gets both IMO.

Now someone stereotype the classic audiophile detractor and call it a day. No, wait! While we're at it, might as well stereotype every group of humans conceivable just to prove we are equal opportunity insulters.

I was just about to go there but I must add that it's threads like this that keep me reading.

Well that formula always worked well for Mel Brooks' movies.

From Blazing Saddles:

Reverend Johnson: Now I don't have to tell you good folks what's been happening in our beloved little town. Sheriff murdered, crops burned, stores looted, people stampeded, and cattle raped. The time has come to act, and act fast. I'm leaving.

I love threads about bacon.

What happened, is there some sort of breeding ground for this subject "audiophile" somewhere and we just haven't found the terrorist cell?

I dont expect anything to change, and I guess this just follows from my 'anti-Krall' rant a few weeks back, but I sometimes wonder if I'm getting impressions almost exclusively from folk who have never listened to anything 'heavier' than George Thorogood .....

So what if you are?Aas long as you know the reference material, is their listening experience and review of a system lessened by the choice of music they use for a test?

You also are stereotyping a person when you ASSume they have "never listened to anything 'heavier' than George Thorogood ...."
