Altec 1570b Full Restoration but what mods?

Now that I think about it, it may be more like a choke input supply since it is in series with the first cap for ripple current. If the first cap common was connected to the CT then it would act like a CLC supply.

Its already a choke input supply though

Label slightly cut off but output from the rectifiers hits L2 first, then C8. I guess the idea is its adding a little more inductance to L2? The added choke would basically sit where "Note 1" is on the stock design. This is already a bridge, just using 5R4's instead of silicon

hm, just pulled up the mod schematic, maybe I was misinterpreting the instructions (did I mention I dislike poorly written instructions?). It doesn't appear to actually be adding a choke, just re-locating it, so now we're back to no effective change to the power supply design.

I have been using my unmodified Altec Flamenco's, not sure what their rated as far as frequency range but comparing between a few different amps I don't notice anything lacking. I have yet to try the Altec's on my Infinity Speakers that have a more dynamic range than the Altec's. Personally, for my needs and listening pleasures I don't care to make the extensive modifications. I don't like excessive bass, I broke my eardrum surfing when I was a kid, the next day was a killer record cold front for Florida and being a dumb kid I had to surf those big cold front swell, and that caused an issue where I had to have a skin graph over my ear drum to get it repaired, ever since deep loud bass is uncomfortable for me. I can understand others might want more bass that is fine, I would rather add a bit on the other side, thinking like floating a hi frequence driver in front of the 15 inch driver, modify the crossover to add a tap for it to give the horn a bit more top end extension.

I doubt the limiting factor on the upper end will be as much of an issue than the horn on my speakers.
