Altec Amps.... YUM!!!!!

Oh I'll REALLY be enjoying this weekend.. it's gonna be a hell of a party..

No.. I'm interested to find out for myself if there is much sound difference.. everyone is always talking about rolling tubes.. I need to give these a try and see if my ears really are made of lead or what..
Sounds like a blast - just like this system is gonna be - take the lead right out of those ears

You know I will.. especially all the half naked girls that usually are running around at these.. :tresbon:

LOL.. no.. not really.. gotta get there early to get a good camping spot.. Believe it or not, my wife enjoys these rallys as much as I do.. and I think the last one she had a better time than I did..

That's so cool. Be safe, have fun.

Meanwhile, after that short digression, back to Altecs & such - good luck with the rebuilds.

aren't those pa amps ??? wondering if any modification to the oriiganal circuitry has been done or in the plans...
i ask this based on what i ahve read on the 1570b's. i know that there is a guy in florida thats mod those extensively for use in audio applications. from what i understand before the mods the 1570's are really kind of not there, after the mods they are compared to the highend krells and such.

I plan on no real mods.. Probably just adding an input jack, either RCA or 1/4" and probably speaker terminals.. The real value in these amps is if you leave them as close to original as possible.. What I do change, I will make sure can be easily undone. OH. and yes, they are PA amps..

The 1570 is really a different beast altogether, a true "high power" amplifier for it's time, the 1568/1569 are based on fairly common circuitry from my understanding, and are not terribly dissimilar from several highly regarded hifi amplifiers.

The 1568's/1569's have been used for nearly every audio application that amplifiers are used for, including critical listening/monitoring, and even to drive record cutting heads. They were also designed and built to endure continuous operation, and many were indeed used in such applications as PA/paging amplifiers in factories, airports, etc. The Waldorf, Astoria used to have a high quality distributed sound system that used Altec 1568's, 1569's, and several 604 and 755 loudspeakers to provide "hifi" background music throughout the entire hotel including elevators and rest rooms.

i was not sure for i am only familiar with the 1570. i am always interested in getting mod info on those a nd was hoping these would be similar
