I used to lug these things around in the back of the van to remotes for the radio station, if only I knew back then what they were.
I ran across my set after someone locally knew that I was into vintage gear. They said they knew an elderly widow friend of theirs had some storage units of old recording studio stuff and she wanted to get rid of it. We connected and I learned that her late husband was a former CBS/Sony recording engineer from the 50's - 70's and that when he retired, they told him to take ALL of the recording studio gear and his master tapes with him. Well, when they moved down from NYC to my area, it filled up 6 storage units. By the time we connected, it was down to 1 unit, but packed. The lady kept referring to the speakers as "Big Red Speakers", so naturally, I thought she was just calling them the obvious so initially I did not think anything of it. I checked them out and saw what I thought was an Altec driver, so I took a pic. Once I got home and did a little research it hit me in the face, SHE knew what she was talking about, I was quite the uninformed.
Initially, I bought just the speakers and some other items at her asking price. Then later, I ended up buying everything else.
