Altec Bolero

I'm looking a set of Altec Bolero speakers for about $150. I note some leaking fluid. Should I be concerned? Are the accordion surrounds still in good condition?

The concern there is if the tweeters work as replacement diaphragms are impossible to find and expensive if you do. If they do, they alone are worth the $150.
That aside, don't worry about the goo or the surrounds; they are fine.

The A and B versions indeed used the 3000 type Altec tweeter, which is NOT inexpensive to have repaired.

These are the "C" version, the tweeter is a CTS made 2 x 6 horn. IMO a metal Radio Shack 40-1228 is an exact fit upgrade to the original.

The migrating surround goo is really only a concern if it has a) migrated to the point where it no longer "seals" the surround, and b) if it hardens in a thick and broad enough area to create an irregularly stiff spot on the surround. 180 degree inversion and careful application of heat via a blow dryer can aid in re-distributing it where it belongs, or simply removing excess.

Excellent Altecs, and excellent speakers in general.

Oh, and 150 is pretty close to stealing them IMO.
