Anyone have any information on these monsters? All I know so far is that they are big, heavy and from 1981. Thanks!

Yep,
I found this earlier when I posted about my 1012's I got today, but still hoping to find an actual user of these guys.

As I said in my previous post, I have a pair of these I bought new back in the 80s. They are OK, but not spectacular. I remember I thought they were absolutely the best speakers ever made when I bought them, but now I don't think so. I think they are a little lacking in bass. I have a pair of Dahlquist speakers that I think sound better, but then, it's all subjective and each person will have a different opinion. I currently have my 1012s stacked with a pair of large Advents and the combination is sweet. I recently had my 1012s refoamed and it may be that they need breaking in a little longer. I also had the crossovers rebuilt and I think that was a total waste of money. They simply don't sound any different than they did before. They are definitely fine speakers and worth saving, it's just that I don't think they are exceptional.

Thanks for the feedback. Can I ask what was done to the xovers - just have the caps refreshed?

Can you be specific about the xovers - what brands of caps or whatever was done??
Thanks!

I didn't do the work myself but did go online and buy all the parts. I don't remember what all that consisted of but I did follow the recommendations found here on AK as to what brands and types to buy. I remember the replacements were much larger than the originals. It wasn't cheap nor was it terribly expensive, I just feel it was a total waste of money. Here's a link to my posting on the parts at the time.

Good luck.
