ID these Altec Lansing Speakers???

lewtex

"Remember the Armadillo"
Can anyone identify these speakers. The owner says he doesn't know much about them except they are big Altec Lansing speakers. If they can be ID'd, are they any good?

Thanks in advance.........

I had a pair of Altec Lansings that I absolutely loved and they performed well for many many years.

I don't recognize those though - sorry!

Altec model 310. Made sometime in the early 1980s. IIRC, it was either right before, or right after, the Sparkomatic buyout of Altec.

An OK speaker... not bad. I had a pair of the 208s (8" 2-way of same design), and they were a bit mellow sounding... not quite as much high frequency "air" as some, but not bad...

But, we're definitely not talking "classic" Altec here...

Regards,
Gordon.

Bought a pair of those a few years back, and didn't like 'em much -- they were quickly sold! Very efficient (ear-blistering, in fact), but to me had a nasty fatiguing sound that wasn't very satisfying. I have several pairs of older Altecs, but these models are nothing like them. Mine too were purchased from a theatre.

Thanks everyone for the quick responses......exactly what I wanted to know. I did look on ebay prior to posting my question, but must have missed the listing of the similar speakers. The owner wants $20, but considering the reviews thus far, I think I will pass. I don't see them fitting in with my L100, 4310, NS-1000M, Large Advent, and LWE arsenal. They might possibly make good garage speakers, but I already have two sets in the garage. Speaker addiction is bad, so I guess it's good to pass every once in a while....
