Hello I’m a member from the UK. We don’t see many original Altecs here so when I saw a pair of the well received Model Three’s at auction I decided to take the gamble. I managed to get them for £150. They are the Series Two models. Overall I’m really impressed, they possess a big, deep, authoritative bass without drifting into the muddy realm, midrange is also very nice with an open and natural sound, the upper mids and highend is the exact reason I’m posting on here. As daft as this sounds I’m having a bit of difficultywith the control knob on the back of the speakers which seems to control the upper mids and high frequencies. I’m having trouble finding that sweetspot I know I probably sound like a complete idiot. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I have a pair of those. As 2-way bookshelf speakers go, they're pretty good, but might benefit from addition of a sub -- not a lot of bottom end there. The good news is, they don't suffer much in comparison to the Model Fives I have, and the bad news is they suffer greatly in comparison to my ADC 303AX's (also a 2-way bookshelf speaker with a 10" woofer) which have no need of a sub.
