Altec Lansing Model Three Series Two

If it isn't a coaxial 15 inch speaker or doesn't have a horn then its not really an Altec. Its something the consumer division came up with to increase sales numbers and failed miserably. I could say the same thing about JBL and Klipsch. Ifs its a two way its not a Klipsch unless it says jubilee and if it doesn't have horns; then is it really a JBL? Would a Corvette really be a Corvette with out a V-8 or would an AC cobra be a real Shelby with out a 427? NO! Is a Heavy Duty Ram Heavy duty without a Cummins diesel? NO, same answer. Its like the big 18 wheeler boy's say if its not a CAT diesel its DAWG. That I'll take exception with. Cummins all the way.

I have a pair that i got at a garage sale.
I did a few mods, I changed the old noisy L pads and the tweeters. I bought these parts at Madisound. used some Morel MDT32S tweeters, they fit perfectly & make a big improvement to the high end compared to the old tweeters. I also bought some cross-over replacement components, but did not even bother to use them as they sounded so good, did not think that they would make any difference.
I matched the tweeters levels to the bass.
 
I was completely satisfied with the sound. I do tend to favor two driver speakers. Paper cone tweeters are also in my hearing sweet spot. I listened to mine for hours at a time and never tired of the sound.
 
I did another restoration/upgrade on my pair. The old replacement cheap odd ball woofers surround rotted out. Each unit had a different woofer, not much bass. Did some Vituix simulation/investigation to find a woofer that fits the box perfectly and it's port tuning. New woofers, FaitalPro 10RS350-8, deep authoritative bass but a bit expensive. A really nice upgrade if you want to afford it.
Run the tweeter L-pad wide open.
