Could be a Magnificent, with a replacement grill? Dimensions seem about right. If so, you have a really nice speaker system there.

A7-500W very uncommon. I would affectionately refer to it as an "early Magnificent".

A7-500W II is the model most often encountered.

The grill is 100% correct, BTW.

Remember, early for a Magnificent, and fairly limited in production.

Generally, the only readily available pics on the web are from hifido.

Nice pickup:thumbsup: I had a pair of Valencias with grilles like that; B model if memory serves correct. Be very careful with those grilles. They're plastic and they've gotten super brittle with their age. They will shatter into many small pieces and there are no replacements.

Nice, real nice. Hook them up to your MC240 and enjoy. I'm listening to some jazz right now on my Altecs with my MC40 mono blocks. Just awesome.
Stop by the Altec host board, it's all things Altec.

Yes, the grilles very fragile , there are some broken at lower corner of one of the speaker .

Very cool speakers. What do they have for crossovers? Maybe some oil caps that you wont have to change?

Any pics with the backs removed?

Hi , how do you like your MC40 ? I got a pair MC40 with the Altec but haven't hook them up yet . I keep the speaker at my friend's house right now . I will try to bring them home soon . Thanks

Yummy, those look nice! You are now the steward of a very fine set of speakers, be proud and play them loud. They should play very clear right up till the tubes clip.
My MC40's were completely rebuilt by a friend and reloaded with good vintage tubes before they went online. That was a year ago, haven't listened to much else, I love them.

How these speakers compare to Model 19 or Valencia ? I bought them off Craigslist along with very good condition MC40 and MX110z . I just want the Mcintosh but the lady want to sell the whole thing . The lady bought the house 2 months ago and the seller didn't want to take the speakers and Mcintosh , so the new home owner got it for free but I paid good price for that .

IMO&E they're better than the Valencia but inferior to the 19. Compared to the Valencia better dynamics and presence. But though they've better dynamics than the 19 the 19 trumps them in bass extension and treble extension. I think all three speakers are excellent.

I've only seen and heard one pair of Magnificents, they sound fantastic. They look as impressive as they sound, too, very stately and proud. Sort of daring you to critically listen. I have Valencias, but dream of Mags.
