Greetings!
I am digging into a new design for a summing amp. I want to go for color, as I will be using the mixer as final stage, to mix hardware synths recorded to my DAW, and RME interface for D/A.
I have a number of Altec Input transformers Altec/Peerless Octal Line Transformer Model 15356, & 15335 Bridging transformers.
Obviously will start with one channel, but looking at the prospect of adding a tube EQ stage, or a 12AX7 preamp and use the transformer for output?
Trying to make this simple, using as many transformers to make life easier, laying out everything nicely with octal plugs, etc.
I’m not completely sold on the need for a tube stage, but I would like to add some color/eq/compression.
I have schematics for a typical summing mixer resistor output network, that I would likely use between each channel, and the final pair of high quality output transformers, thinking UTC LS-30 or Triad HA-100?
Not trying to skimp on parts, looking for unique high quality sound, adding color, and some mix capabilities.
Also hoping to make something that heavily relies on OpAmps and Transormers.
Would greatly appreciate any insight, I can’t be the first person to have thought of this.
Altec, I guess, would it be just as good to get a pair of mixers and finagle a way to mod them with a stereo bus?
Obviously need to keep thinking this through!
