Broke leg or not I'm putting my 19s together today. My question is the last owner blocked the bottom from the top of the cabinet. Was this some type of fix? Never heard anything about this one. Thanks

Only the last owner could answer "why?".

A part of what makes the Nineteen unique among it's peers is it's cabinet design which incorporates a resonant cavity as part of the enclosure. No doubt this in part is what allows the 416 play well across an unusually wide frequency range in the Nineteen, wider than any other Altec system using the 416.

I can't see how eliminating the resonant cavity would do anything to improve the speaker.

Thanks guys. I pulled the boards out. All most done. Tomorrow I will finish and report back on my opinion. I can't wait

Let us know what they sound like! I wish I had the space for a pair of 19's. I am jealous.

They sound incredible. Cant wait to put some tube power on them. I am more than pleased.

I can only guess that the guy who modified them, thought he was fixing a basic design defect.

I would like to say I've see it all. But rest assured someone will show me something new soon enough.
