I saw an ad for some Altec 604-8G speakers in my neck of the woods. Any idea if my MC225 could drive them? They're 15" coaxals. I've been thinking about looking for some vintage speakers. :scratch2:

No problem driving them as they are very efficient. At 1-2 watts you'll be backing away from the speakers

Just one quick question for whoever knows it - is that cardboard in the hole where I think a horn should be? I can't locate a good pic of the 604G for comparison... Sure looks to me like something is missing, though...

Quality over Quantity
I have identical Model 17's that I use with MC40's. He doesn't make mention in his ad about the working condition of these, so I would definately contact him and see that they are operating properly. When I bought mine, one of the voice coils was bad, which wasn't a big deal, but did cost close to $100 to replace.

Personally I like the H best as the Mantaray horn is better IMHO, the G's are very nice too, I have the C, E, G, H, and a broken down K, the H is the one I settled on but there too rare!! Yes, good sized cabs make all the difference in the bass extension!!Number 9 said:

Wow! Thanks for all of the feedback. I have been using some single driver speakers for near field listening and these caught my eye. I wonder if these would be over kill. I've never had Altecs or horn speakers and wonder how these would handle jazz and vocals. They could probably handle the rock side of the house. Are they super heavy? They look like book self speakers. Anyway, they will probably go to the moon!

The MC 225 will drive the crap out of them and will sound excellent. My MC225 with Altec A7 will rock the house with no problem and plenty of throttle left. You can hardly go wrong with them whether they work or not. Replacing the high frequency diaphram or the low frequency cone also replaces the voice coil. contact great plains Audio for the best replacements. call, dont email.
