Amateur Hour? How screwed am I?

I've seen many transformers that looked like that, and they were fine. Some have tar inside to seal against moisture, the true test is if one of the voltages are missing, or the transformer blows fuses (or draws current, gets hot, smokes)with the rectifier pulled .
Please keep in mind if you decide to do voltage tests on the amp, that there is high voltage in several spots that can be lethal if you are not extremely careful when doing testing with the amp powered up. Like I said a few posts back, if you aren't absolutely sure about what you're doing, take the amp to a qualified tech to do the diagnoses rather than wasting money buying parts that are not needed, hurting yourself or doing even more damage to the equipment.
it seems we're all guessing at the problem. you have two choices, 1) take the whole thing
to someone who knows tube amps, 2) DIY
diy (for tube stuff is LETHAL --> 400+V - one slip of the probe and your heart is in fibrillation)
to future save your Fisher, wire a 100R resistor (1-5W depending on your taste in music) across
each speaker tap's 16R and ground. this puts a permanent load on the OPTs and prevent that nasty
inductive reverse tsunami that destroys the OPT's family jewels. and if and when you're
testing always do LOW volume and if you ever NOT hear louder volumes when SLOWLY
advancing the volume controls, then its not your ears, and it will be something else.
if you don't have schematic reading and tube troubleshooting experience and can ID the problem
you will be paying for that technician to do so. the good news is that you will be paying for his
experience, and keeping them in business (for another day, and another tube unit) and that
tube amp will return to fight on for another day and
you can enjoy the music
