American Pickers

I was just watching a 2014 episode of American Pickers called "Captain Quirk" and they had a giant Columbia record... it might've been a clock and it was maybe five feet tall. Question: the guys didn't pick it, but what do you think the value is on it? Does anyone here have one?!? They also walked by some vintage speakers, including what looked like some JBL's.

Someone should call the show and find out where these things are and rescue them. I have not watched them as they no longer are on any channel I receive up here but noticed they tended to bypass vintage audio equipment and related products but would from time to time mention seeing the units.

I am a bit surprised they passed on the clock as they used to fawn over advert related signs, etc. and this would have been right up their alley and they had a contact in that particular business who would buy advert signs, clocks, posters, etc.; almost every one every time they visited to get an idea of value.

They might've passed on the record, because it was too big to fit in the van?!?

They ship all things that do not fit in the van or make some arrangements. It may be a blessing that they pass by things we like.

IIRC that piece (Sun Records) was not for sale but part of the owners collection that he wasn't parting with.
Maybe if the offer was a high blowout he may have considered

I have seen them, (once) pick up a piece of audio gear. I think it was maybe a Scott IA, tube era. I think it was a "through this in for $20.00" thing. I love watching the show. Based on their "pickings" they have a niche market they specialize in, and do quite well.

I shudder all the time, catching glimpses of radios & TVs I'd about KILL for, & they totally ignore. I see 'em tripping over DOLLARS all the time to go get a NICKEL.. To each his own, & all, but not EVERYBODY gets Fondue in their Drawers over some old dopey, rusty, Shot-to-**** "Shell Oil" or "Koo-Koo Kola" sign..

I believe their niche market is the people watching the show. If you see the show and figure the amount of money they profit off each score, they wouldn't even have spare money to cover the fuel for the van driving across the country. Not to mention the cost of the young ladies tattoo's.

Not to change the subject about the Pickers show, but I came across the show on horders the other day. The guy had a collection of albums and stereo stuff, he let the helpers toss a bunch of things, I caught a glimpse of them tossing some vintage AR speakers in the dumpster. They looked like 2ax's or similar, still had the tags on the back. It was an arrrhhhh moment.

I met Mike in Nashville, he really is as nice a guy as he appears on the show. He could do that. Show by himself and it would be just as, if not more successful. Frank seems like a weasel.

Saw it too!

A friend of mine through his Dahlquist DQ-10' in a dumpster.

Thanks to the American Pickers walking by the vintage gear. All we need is everyone in the country seeing them make big money on vintage audio. Not only people who would buy it, but also those who sell it.

I watch the show here and there for entertainment value but it is highly setup. They dont just show up at someones door. I know someone that works in the biz of reality tv especially these pawn stars , pickers type show and its nothing like reality.

I wouldn't call them idiots. Sour grapes? I think it is a pretty cool show. Now, I would call Duck Dynasty a big turd.
