Amp Catches FIRE At SPL Competition -

Please correct me if I am mistaken, but the guy did unplug the power to the amp, then applied water.

True, but he should have been carrying a fire extinguisher and apparently he has never operated a wood stove, because unless it is a candle or a match, blowing on the fire is just going to add oxygen and make it worse. The only drawback to the fire extinguisher is you would not get to see several guys try to "spit out" a fire. It probably been a little more effective if one of them pulled their pants down and tried to "pee it out".

I thought it was hilarious. Thanks for posting. Too bad that don't happen to all the amps playing all over my neighborhood.

So you're saying you want to see a video with a bunch of guys dropping trou.

Not that there's anything wrong with that...

I don't understand why people compete to see who has a more bad-ass system. Who the hell cares? Its like my idiot neighbor who brags that his Dad's Mercedes can go 200 MPH (according to the speedometer). His crazy brain doesn't seem to comprehend that it don't matter, because unless you want the cops to chase you, YOU CANNOT use it to drive at 200 MPH.

With speakers. I don't care how loud it can go, I just want to be able to listen to it at COMFORTABLE levels, and have a bit extra headroom for parties, and such.

Also, if that dude had common sense, he would realize that little drops of spit won't help, and blowing adds oxygen to the fire.:scratch2:

Kinda wish it burned even more.

But then again, shouldn't the amp have some thermal limiting feature? My Hafler, and Yamaha stuff shuts down when it gets to hot (manual says so... never shut off because of heat though.)

When I was young and into car stereo, I installed a power wire for one of my amps that was sort of loose under my seat, with no fuse. One fine morning I was driving with my friend when I adjusted my seat a few clicks and caught that power wire in the seat rail. It shorted that power wire right to my car's frame. The insulation along the entire length of the wire burned off and any carpet or plastic that was in contact with that wire melted or smoldered. Lots of smoke and two scared guys, but no injuries or flames.
