Amp for Yamaha NS-1000m

Welcome. The NS-690 III is an excellent speaker on its own and trading for the NS-1000M may be a good idea or bad. IMO, the 1000M is a better speaker overall because they make the best sounding amps sound even better. The 690's are more forgiving because of the cloth domes which trade a little of Be's hotness for smoothness. The cloth domes make about 3 dB output less and they do not have the metallic ring that pushes strings and metal horns forward.

Looking at your list of amps, the TA-8650 is probably your best choice. The NS-1000M was marketed with Yamaha's B-2, which is VFET and a fine match. I had a TA-5650 at one time and still have a B-2. The Marantz 1180DC is also a nice amp but I think it is better with the 690's. In summary, if you intend to keep your amps, I think you will be perfectly happy with the 690's. If you intend to upgrade your amps, the 1000M can take better advantage.
 
The Yamaha CR 2040 is a good choice that could sell around the same price as the 2020. And the 2040 is a bit more straightforward inside then the 2020.
I am in the U.S. but my 2040 is a Euro Model.
 
McIntosh MC7200, Mark Levinson, or Yam MX-2000. The NS1000s have the accuracy and speed to let you hear whats going on, not caramelize it over like so many others. Not really a music speaker in my opinion or at least not with CD, better for movies with complex emotional soundtracks (music in movies is always mixed better to me for some reason), voice, real life sounds.

Running my NS-1000Ms with a Yamaha CA-2010. Seems to work well.

I've run them with my McIntosh MA-6100, and that worked well, too.
 
Well on the Kenwood KR-9050 the transients are astonishing.

That's a fast 180V/µsec and pushes 200W/ch and 240 at 4 ohms. (Might compare it to the supreme series'). On the Yamis the stereo separation might be higher. Especially in the phono section.

Will see if the higher amperage of the M-2 does anything different...so many combinations! :yes:
 
You NS-1000 guys are making me jealous. There's a guy local to me selling a pair for $1k. I'm not in the market for anymore speakers though.:scratch2:

Actually, the Yammies are rated at 100W maximum. They're 50WRMS. Which, makes them a perfect match for the Sony TA-5650. My favorite combo so far. :thmbsp:

My MOSFET's are pushing 240+ wpc.

But probably.The most I ever push the NS-1000's is maybe 25WPC and thats to frick'n loud.But the bass is solid and tight, treble- magical and crystal clear. I loves my beryllium..
 
+1 love to the Be element.

Rather have a 500 wpc amp with 25 or 50 w rated speakers than the other way 'round. Nice to not worry about clipping from the amp with 10 or 20 times the reserve capability. :music:

Distortion kills tweeters. And my ears.
