Amp/receiver Help needed!

Hi I’m in the process of buying a pair of b&w 630i. I have a reciever that I’m not sure can handle them. The one in question is the NAD STEREO RECIEVER 710. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

According to the manual, your NAD receiver can handle 4ohm speakers, so the B&W 630i's should be OK. Might not be the most powerful setup, but shouldn't do any harm at all.

I'm with @benricci however at 20wpc you'll be on the light side when it come to powering them

Only 10 watts / channel more for the Technics, plus a lower damping factor compared to the NAD (40 vs 100). You need to explain what the issue is - what do you mean by 'all the sound I pure static / wind'?

well I’ve had my doubts about this reciever mainly because I found it on the street next to an empty somos amp box. So I figured the guy replaced the other… but maybe it doesn’t work

It will probably work. Depends on how much they are asking for it and if it is in good condition. That isn't going to be a powerhouse by any means so I would avoid overcranking it and blowing up some tweeters...

Those B&W's seem to be pretty power hungry and also present a 4 ohm load. So a cheap 30 WPC Technics may be a bit underwhelming and underpowered. So if it is cheap it might be good for a temporary solution but surely you want something with closer to 100 WPC that can run that 4 ohm load all day long. That Technics might be OK but it will be pushing it hard...

That right there is how you end up frying them. Driving an underpowered receiver past it's limits.

If it's in proper working order the short answer is yes in that it'll provide music to the speakers however as others have mentioned several times the speakers will be woefully under powered.

As of Monday you were in the process of, so are we to assume you actually purchased the B&W's? if so are they in proper working order?

Yea I did buy em they sounded really good when I heard them at the sellers house.

I’m trying to do this as cheap as possible but I realize that I would rather spend a little more once than buying something that cannot handle the speaker’s properly. So definitely not going for the technics anymore.

Might be a dumb question but are d grade amps that bad?
