an affinity for infinity....

I have a pair of CS 3008s I rescued from the curbside. The 8"s needed a foam job, but they were otherwise pristine. This was my first (and only to date) set of Infinitys. I'm so impressed with the EMIT R that I often wonder how the other EMIT and EMIM sound. The 3008s continue to set the bar for all other speakers that enter the mancave. If I only had a proper amp to drive them...

Hope you guys are checking out the Infinity forum here at AK. There are some very exciting developments happening right now regarding upgraded replacements for the EMIM and EMIT diaphragms.

man these speakers are awsome...Recently i put in sound deadening material on the woofer baskets...some plumbers putty and some rope caulk...took care of secondary woofer sounds..ringing...tapping or rubbing on the basket doesnt produce ringing no more. Did the same on the midrange basket...but i think i need to put in more as i didnt get around teh magnet

What effect does that have as far as performance goes? How much to the baskets ring when they are screwed tight to an MDF baffle?

When you consider an enclosure(speaker cab), and you play music. Put your ear to the sides of the cab.

You will notice that you hear almost all the lower mid to the midrange...almost in all speakers....Who is to say that the same doesnt happen on the woofer baskets? Why do you think Cast frame woofers are well thought of?

other thatn being well built?

I had RSIIb. Deep bass, fast as hell and airy. The only drawback is they wouldn't play loud. They hit a wall no matter how many watts I threw at them (not that I abused them, of course). I had RS4.5 which were way better all around but I had to get a better amp so as not to fry them and a lesser amp. Space was a problem so I sold them to one of our own, kmanusa. Now I have RSb which are about mint, cheap and highly listenable as long as you don't expect the world from them. The midrange came alive after I cleaned the pots, which are notorious for corroding and should always be attended to before reaching a verdict about their abilities. Vintage infinity is awesome!

ill vouch for their sound...And yes i cleaned up the pots on the RS7...not so on ethe RSe..i dont think any ways.

But i did clean them on the RSa. Funny that i like how they sound...as they dont have an Mid driver on them...but as stand alone and playing loud i like them...they love current.

edit...On playing loud...even my V1b M&K will play louder for the same volume stting....but it may be the amp(section used) SX 1500td
