An Audiofool's Dream System

Hi all,

Stopped by my local thrift store today and as I was driving into the parking lot the store next door had a stereo system playing outside their door. What caught my eye was that the speakers were what looked like a 70's 3-way design.

Sooo, after walking through the thrift store I walked down to the RAC to see what this thing was? It was big but not really loud for this many speakers and ones that are this big.

I tried picking up the center console part with no problem at all, must of only weighed around 25 pounds and the speakers were even lighter.

It states it's a 2500 watt system!

The pay-off price about killed me, my SX-1980 cost less.

After googling this name "Welton Technical Pro", I found several youtube videos of people saying how cool this was with all the LED lights going.

I felt so sad for anyone auctually fooled into thinking this was a great system and not having anyone around them to slap them upside their head before they wasted their $$$$

Pro = Perpetrating a Rip Off, technically speaking of course.

Looks like the white van got a storefront.

What a shame.

Reminds me of the schlock Woolworth was selling in its waning days. For years, American TV in Madison, WI displayed a MTX/Soundcraftsmen system that looked a bit like that.

Come audition at your local Rent A Center. Can't find a local Rent A Center? You will if you start poking around the bad parts of town!

That is one of the reasons I give systems away. Nobody should pay for that, never mind having to pay the exorbitant prices that RAC charges. Every now and again you will see a CL seller looking to flip those saying "I paid two grand for them". The really sad thing is that they probably did pay two grand for them. I honestly don't know how the RAC people live with themselves.

Those aren't white van speakers. Rent a Centers sell different stuff than you'll find in white vans. The RAC stuff is better quality but it is basically cheap flashy crap.
White van stuff is lower quality if that's even possible.

I call this stuff New Skool Kabuki. Lots of flash.... It looks impressive to the audio ignorant and under 30 crowd who are used to speakers with carpeting instead of veneer.
Same Kabuki premise of over the top style and design.

I was at a guy's house the other day that had this new Sony Kabuki system.
I was kinda surprised that Sony would make such a thing.
2000 watts and light up speakers.
HUGE volume knob and changing colors everywhere.

Sony's in the game too, OMG! Never would have thought that :( But least their half the cost and have more lights :)

From Krowmagnum's Sony link above;

"Work the crowd into a frenzy with 2000W of pure power churning out meticulously crafted mixes from your laptop, iPod/iPhone or MP3 player"

"meticulously" Then you play them on that thing? ROFLOL.

How are they coming up with these wattage numbers?

Technical Pro is the white-van version of pro audio. They have a website, www.tpro.com. Read some of their product descriptions anytime you need a good laugh.

Technical Pro isn't white van either. Just cheap flashy stuff like Pyle Pro and numerous other brands.
White van junk will always have a really high MSRP and is made specifically to be sold in parking lots, never retail. Stuff like Technical Pro and Pyle pro is retailed on the internet and in catalogs and some flea markets :D

That's exactly it. The reason it's so expensive is to offset the cost of loss, because a LOT of people stop paying on their things.

I used to have a neighbor that was a regional manager for a check cashing company whose parent company also owned rent to own establishments. The stories, ranging from target demographic to product selection were pretty interesting, and honestly, I don't need/want to tell them. Go into any RAC and look carefully at all the furniture, electronics and appliances and it will all become quite clear.

And also... I would TOTALLY put that Sony in my office. I'd be too cool 4 skool!

That has to be among the very worst jobs on the planet. To be a repo man for a furniture/electronics rental place.

Almost. The reason it is so expensive is to have the down payment cover the whole thing so there is no risk of loss. Just like a "buy here/pay here" car lot selling old $800 cars for five grand.

It's lightweight, it has lots of LEDs, and it will impress the ladiez. What's not to like?
