Precisely what I'm doing, thanks mate. I believe the rubber says 8v and the led is 12 but I imagine that just gives more wiggle room like when you use a higher capacitor, as long as it isn't lower.

Interesting set up you got there.
It would make a good shop rig when you make a cabinet.

Interesting unit. Just very dirty. Surprising how much better they can look once cleaned up. Restored some fix and repairs they can get grungy sitting for decades in an attic, or detached garage, or wherever they were stuck for a long time. Most of the time they clean up and look nice.

Probably both, not many made, and probably expensive at the time. Consoles like that were largely the domain of domestic brands.

And I guess (strange as this might sound to us now) that back in the 80-ies people did not like these oldfashioned cabinets anymore, with their "old and ugly equipment" just taking space away. They just trashed the whole thing after buying a brand new 80-ies stereo set. These cabinets where associated with grandpa and grandma and not suited for a modern 80-ies home..

First "trashing wave" probably started 1976/1977 as the "rack" systems were introduced and quickly became very popular..

Second (and probably last) "trashing wave" I expect was around 1984 as CD players were coming into the homes, the then 15-20 year old consoles/cabinets with their turntables lost their value all together..

I like the look of the receiver, I must admit the chip board cabinet seems a bit crappy, even though I'm sure it would have cost a packet in its day.
Throwing out old equipment still happens. I found a pair of living audio Chrysler speakers by the side of the road. Still have them too.

I'd like to know a date as much as anyone but its an old unit of unknown origin with no date marked, given to me by a habitual auction junk buyer who still drives an 80s Toyota. I don't know what I can do about finding a date other than asking.
