Is it worth a crap?

Wondering if anyone knows anything about the marantz model 18 receiver. Are they too ancient or worth maintaining?:drool:

Check the completed sales on ebay. The Marantz 18 brings a decent price. Whether they are worth repairing depends a lot on your skills. At my skill level I'd have to think long and hard about trying to repair something like that Marantz. However, other people have the skills to repair them and are willing to pay a price to get one.

The two-digit models were all made in the USA, IIRC, and as such generally seem to command a premium price.

In 1968-1973 it sold for $695, it's 40 WPC, and it's Marantz, so yes, it's worth maintaining.

And Bolly's 18 sounds great. Search for the unit and read a bunch or nice comments.

I haven't picked one up yet, but was considering swapping out my 2275 for one. I love the 2275 as far as the sound, but really like the appearance of the 18. After thumbing through a service manual of the model 18, I got the overwhelming feeling that they were perhaps a bit too antique to keep as a daily user. Just wondering if I'm making a wise choice or not.

There's a school of thought that thinks the 18 is one of the finer Marantzs and well worth a shot.

Nope. The 18 was US made, maybe the 19, too. I am not so sure 'bout the latter.
