Angels Horn has removed the "Made in USA" and fake reviews from their web site, and a representative of the company told me they do ship out of that garage in Missouri, but now their web site seems to be half in Chinese, and I don't see any option to switch it to all-English.
Like I said in the video, the turntables are probably OK, but I would not recommend buying them from such a shady, slapdash company. You can find more trustworthy brands selling nearly identical turntables at the same or better prices.
I got it and it plays fine. The built in preamp isn’t great, so line out is better into my Denon x4200 phono input. I tried my Bellari VP129, but was getting some humming sound... probably because it was too close to receiver, so will get around to fixing that down the road. I do like the overall package.
This one has Bluetooth, but I am not a fan of how that works. It just automatically connects to whatever Bluetooth device is nearby. Unfortunately, I have too many always on Bluetooth devices in my office. I got some static on a Bluetooth speaker it automatically connected to that was just 7 or so feet away. I did place a Bluetooth speaker closer to it, but the sound wasn’t in the same ballpark as my regular office setup, even if the connection was much better with it sitting closer to it.
It also has usb out, but the supplied cable was too short to reach my computer, so I have an extension cord on the way to test that out. I doubt that I will use it all that often, though.
They are selling it for around $180 on Amazon and I prefer this fake mahogany ( will post a pic when I come back and describe the USB) to some of the other options in that video about it. I guess we will see how it holds up, but it has been a lot of fun spinning records in my office while I work from home.
I see his point about their initial campaign and it obviously doesn’t give the buyer a sense of confidence. It is probably why they have it in Amazon’s review program ( though, plenty of respected companies go that route too). I decided to post my thoughts here since this is part of the reason I would have reservations about it.
In fairness, the Orbit he compared it to doesn’t have a preamp, Bluetooth, or USB out. I don’t see a switch for changing 33 to 45, either. If you add the Orbit preamp to the Orbit, the price goes to $250. Not saying the preamp is much to write home about, but it’s there for those that just want to get up and running and part of the cost which is right in line with the Orbit that has a lot less features ( most of which I personally won’t use, but they are part of the cost).
