I have some turntables that are nice but lately I am really liking the linear ones. I first got a Pioneer PL L1000 and use that as my main table. I just purchased a Technics SL J2 and love it. It sounds real good with the Sansui amp and man it is fun to use. It is all touch button operated and it is fun to just put the track in you want to hear and it works like a charm. It is also very small and seems to be fairly simple. Does anyone else like the linear tables?

They are fun to use, my experience with them are very limited.
My Mitsubishi LT-22 is quit large compared to other linear trackers, probably similar to the Pioneer PL-L1000 in size. I am going to try out the new AT 95HE on it next.
 
Dont have one but have a Bug for one. Need to invest in other parts of my stereo first though. (Speakers would be a good start)
 
I became hooked on linear trackers many years ago, especially Technics.
I have an SL-10 (Highly recommended), two SL-6's an SL-5 and my original SL-J1. They have always been available down here and I love them for all the reasons you are discovering. I have other tables but only really use linear now with the SL-10 being the absolute fav.
I'm always keeping a look out on the local auction site though and would love to get hold of an SL-15 and an SL-7.

Yesterday, I swapped turntables around and the big ol' Technics SL-M3 is back in my bedroom system where I do most of my record listening. I also have one of the "LP Jacket" sized Technics linear trackers, a SL-Q5, in my office at work. I wouldn't mind having one of the programable models, but it isn't a top priority right now.

My main "problem" right now is that, owning several Technics linear trackers, I ended up building a rather excessive collection of p-mount cartridges.
 
I have a B&O 4004 linear tracker, which I am very happy with, but my holy grail of TT's would be a Sony linear bio-tracer.
 
Looks like others like them as well. Blade 929 I will have to take a look at the SL J15 that sounds like a great table.
 
Pioneer L1000

I picked up the above PL L1000 yesterday. It is a project.
It indeed rotates, and the arm retracts when finished though very slowly.
The arm does not react to any of the switches. and does not lift.
One of the parts is broken.
Does anyone have parts, dust cover etc.?
ANy tips?

I have a Mitsubishi LT-20 that sounds fantastic. It took going way way over it price-wise to improve on it's sound.
 
I love my cheapo akai linear tracker (ap-a50c - "cheapo" at least compared to what I was originally looking for when I started looking to get back into vinyl this year, $20 from estate sale). I am actually going to put my dual up for sale. I've decided after playing with all my TTs for a while that I simply like the sound of the akai best. short straight p-mount arm. akai cart (which I'm assuming is rebranded AT). fully automatic but not programmable (no track reading system). quartz locked direct drive. other than having a not too great base (although I've seen much worse in some other 1980s TTs), it's solid as a rock.

The more I use it and my dual with stanton 681eee, the more I like the akai.

I know that I shouldn't according to many turntable purists LoL, but I do.
 
I have a PL-L1000 with a new Denon DL-160 cartridge. This is the best this baby has ever sounded. :thmbsp:

My Mitsubishi Linear Tracker replaced a Linn Axis and Systemdek IIX, and is now on it's way to my girlfriends house to replace a Technics SL-1210mkII. It doesn't sound better than my VPI, but I never would have expected it, to, and could have lived happily with it if I had chose to. I also like choosing tracks by pushing buttons, for some reason.

The arm lowers and raises by a motor that turns a belt. That's what I would look at first - probably an easy fix.
 
My Pioneer PL-L800 also needs the arm to be moved through several cycles after the turntable has been moved. Don't know if this applies to the PL-L100 as well.

My experience w/ the Technics linear trackers has been positive (haven't had the SL-7, but have had SL-5, SL-10)

The SL-7, SL-10 & the SL-15 are definitely better than any previous model in this SL range. Especially in build quality, they are solid little things!
Some reviews have rated the SL-7 slightly above both the 10 & the 15 in one key area (can't quite recall, something to do with the motor) but overall I believe either the SL-10 and/or the programable SL-15 to be the best.
A search gives a reasonable amount of info. on each of these.
