Another new member! HPM-100 Speakuhzz?

Hey guys, recently I've been getting into stereo equipment and a lot of my searches have brought me here. Please forgive my ignorance, since I'm quite new to this.

A little bit about me: I was born in the 80 (I know, horrible decade), I play the guitar and piano, work in the field of Information Technology and love most kinds of music (except rap, polka and serious jazz). I will mostly be listening to classic rock, progressive rock, blues, classical music, blue/rock/jazz fusion.

I have been playing a lot of my music back with my computer. FLAC files played through an EMU1212m soundcard connected to some Yamaha HS80M speakers with balanced TLR to XLR cables. I have also connected this to my NAD1600, without balanced connections.

I'm putting together my first attempt at a high(er) quality 2.0 speaker system purely for listening to music.

Currently I have:

NAD 1600 Preamp
NAD214 (80rms wpc)
5 Disc Kenwood CD Change (from a thrift store lol)
Advent Legacy II speakers (from the early 90s)

First of all, welcome to AK. It sounds like you're going to fit right in around here! :thmbsp:

Being a fellow member of the generation born in the 1980s (11/30/82), I don't see anything so horribly wrong with the 80s. In fact, I kind of miss them even though I was all of six years old by 1989!

I've never heard the HPM-100s, so I cannot speak as to how good they sound. I suspect a lot of that is very subjective and I've read where people love and hate them alike. Were someone to ask me to recommend a speaker for general purpose, average volume listening (not parties)...I'd have to say that have been crazy about the Realistic NOVA-6 speakers since running across my first pair.

In the end, it only matters what you think. I'd say "get the speakers you won and see what you think of them", because all of this is highly subjective and if you like it, that's all that matters. If not, I'm sure you can move them on no problem (but that's another subject for a different forum here).
 
One thing I forgot to mention:

I have been considering getting another NAD 214 and bridging them for 160rms wpc. I don't really need more volume, but have read that it could provide cleaner amplification. As it stands it's hard to have a conversation if the volume knob is at 50% :)
