Another PL-L1000 question

I know getting an answer to this is a longshot, but does anyone know of a suitable replacement for the little white cap that covers the end of the tonearm bolt that fits in the v-groove of the elevation assembly? Without it, the tonearm flops around from side to side when in the up position.

Yes.
Mine was broken in shipment, I made a replacement from a rounded ballpoint pen push.

Thanks for that reply. I might be able to find a suitable pen to make one. I also thought about the little red cap that slips over the end of a zoom spout oiler. It's sort of a rubbery plastic, but I'm not sure that would matter

Were you able to slip it on without disassembling the tonearm? Seems there isn't much room to maneuver to get it over the bolt.

One more question (sorry to keep pestering), but is there a rule of thumb as to how far it needs to slip onto the bolt? If I am reading the manual correctly, it has to raise the arm just slightly so it is not resting on the support when in the up position. Is that correct?

Yes, and it is adjustable within limits.
Try to get it centered as well as possible, slight turns of that screw also centers at rest due to inevitable offset of the post tip, which affects arm drift at rest.

Maybe, tho stability may be an issue if not secure and steady.
 
Thanks for the info. I tried to put one on, but if it's too long I can't get it in the spot to go over the screw. I made another and got it on, but it was to short to keep the the tonearm a fraction above the rest as shown in the manual. I ordered a spanner set of screwdrivers so I can loosen the spanner nut and back the screw out a bit to give me more room. Hope I can make this work. I am out of pens and because of a positive Covid test, I can't go get anymore to play with. :(
