Another Yamaha C4 needs help (and so do i!)

Have you tried the +/- 30 volt adjustment? First step in the adjustment/alignment procedure in the service manual.
 
I found time to install the new transistors and diodes, and what can I say?

it runs, and beautifully so. that last step seems to have fixed all the remaining problems.

full volume for all outputs, all functions work, including the pre-out (this might not be related to the new parts, maybe I somehow unknowingly fixed a contact problem I introduced earlier myself), balance is good, all switches and potentiometers work really cleanly. no drop outs or acting up while playing for several hours over a harman kardon citation receiver (in main amp mode) over my main speaker setup (mb quart 2200s 's).

this combination really sounds great.

i have not done the voltage adjustments yet, since the amp ran fine without it - is there something to gain, when functionality is restored either way? if so, i'll pull the trigger.

looks like the harman kardon citation receiver is up next for a new cap treatment. you dont happen to have pulled apart and repaired dozens of these, aswell?

The Citation Receiver?, I don't think there are very many that have even seen one much less pulled one apart and stuffed it with new parts. There have been a few conversations about this unit though. Maybe a search will find the guilty party that might be some help.

did the voltage and bias adjustments to my c4 today. im still amazed by its sound.

i also opened the citation receiver and... phew thats a totally different beast.


while most boards are super easy to access and take out, this unit is cluttered with all sorts of weird jumper cables, wildly soldered stuff to literally *something* i guess 1/4 of all components is not on a board, the speaker switch is a open switch hanging amidst the unit, with cables directly connecting to the switching contacts, the radio receiver frequency selector is moved via twine over several rolls - its pure chaos and a pain to move around because of the almost 30kg weight. i'd rather do another C4, its so cleanly laid out. theres one board in the citation that looks like a major pain to take out - tone control, buried behind the massive front plate.

it also has 3 speaker pairs, but the clamping speaker connectors are so tiny, i cant even fit 2mm wire in it - i've not found any replacements that would fit (needs to be 1cm or less in diameter) any ideas? :)
