Any "covers" ever better than the originals?

I am biased, but all the covers The Beatles recorded sound better than the originals to me...by far. Probably because their version was the first version of the song I heard, over. Over. And over again...burned into my psyche.

I am a victim of my times.

"Moving in Stereo" covered by Fu Manchu

"2000 light years from home" covered by Monster Magnet

"Bring the Pain" covered by MSI

"American Woman" covered by Soundgarden

I like all of these over the originals.

the song "Superstar" which was written by Rita Coolidge. The Carpenters' (who I really dislike BTW) version of this song is haunting and deserved to be a top ten tune. gives me goosebumps for some reason!

a similar song originally by Bread called "Guitar Man" was improved greatly by Cake.

Superstar was written by Leon Russell and Bonnie Bramlett.

Has anybody mentioned Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal" covered by Alien Ant Farm?

OK, so the answer would be "yes". :D

Pretty sure Leon Russell and Bonnie Bramlett wrote "Superstar." Bette Midler also did a great cover of it on her first album.
Too lazy to do a search: did anyone mention "Louie, Louie" by the the Kingsmen?
I like Bonnie Bramlett's version of "Forever Young" better than Dylan's.

Much better version of Police's So Lonely.

1984 Version by Brazilian Rocker Leo Jaime in Portuguese call 'Solange' a play on words. The lyrics are genious for those who understand it and Musically the track is much tighter as Leo Jaime is backed on this track by Brazilian band Paralamas which had a similiar sound to The Police. Much much much better guitar solo.

A.R.S.'s version of Spooky, I like it better than the Classics IV original.
Original.
Cover.

Cheap Trick's cover of "California Man". Kudos to the great Roy Wood for writing a cool tune, and kudos to the Trick for doing it justice.

801 Live's version of "Tomorrow Never Knows" takes spacey to a new level.

CCR & "Suzie Q". 'Nuff said.

Years ago I heard a really languid version of ABBA's "SOS"...Aztec Camera? Damn cool regardless.

Are rerecordings by an artist considered covers? If so, every one is an abomination (an audio abortion).

Hope not. I like Bowie's re-recording of Space Oddity much better than the original.

Don't feel like re-reading the whole thread, but I'm sure Nirvana's cover of Man Who Sold The World has been mentioned. I prefer that to Bowie's original. Related to Nirvana, I like their cover of Lake Of Fire better than the Meat Puppet's original as well.

I'm not digging the Disturbed version. His voice is just creepy sounding. I don't particularly care for anything they do though.

the Spooky cover, I dig that.

Don't know if this has been mentioned but for my money the best cover ever done was Train kept a Rollin by Aerosmith back when they were a real rock band, much better than the Yardbirds version.Second was Molly Hachet coverin Dreams I'll Never See by the Allman Bros.
